thanks for your comment. mine does have a hood scoop. i like the looks but i get serious sun reflections off it, grr.

Again, "highlander" was purely a sort of nickname for the Sport trim, not a certain combination of features - it's just that particular combination (locker+manual) was only available for that trim in those years, making it sought after, but not all of them came equipped as such. VSC/Trac was added in 01 too, which also makes the previous years more desirable (even though it can be easily disabled with a little snipping and soldering)
Also came with brown/black interior which was the best looking to most. Imo it beats the hell out of plain grey!

For a while I thought my 01 imperial jade sport edition was a Hilander. Then I think its only 99 and one color. Then I learn its 2 colors and 2 years.

Good to know this and thanks for sharing. It also seems I was the only one thinking it was one year. Interesting. Learn new things every day.

Oh yeah, and if memory serves, Silver was added in 2000. Hood Scoop is a pretty good tell-tale sign - but the color matching Front & Rear Bumpers is probably a better one. Lot's of people added Hood Scoops but few went to the trouble of swapping out the Bumpers.

Toyota changed to calling this trim package "Sport" when they decided to use the "Highlander" name for their new line of vehicles.

If that's the case mine is a 2001 highlander as it's a sport. Now your adding more colors...:/ just isn't because it was 2 years only. Explains my confusion as mine has the color keyed bumpers too.

Highlander = 1999 (Green & Black)
Highlander = 2000 (Green & Black & Silver)
Changed to calling it Sport in 2001 (I'm not sure what colors were available 2001+

I can tell you my 2001 sport is the imperial jade Green. I suspect several more colors were available in the 2001 and 2002 sport trim line.
