Both the OD and 4WD switches are detent switches or latching switches if you prefer. I have a limited multi mode with RR diff lock and actually like the 4wd switch where it is, no searching or scanning it's intuitively right there in my right hand conveniently placed so you can swiftly hit it or pull down to 4x4 as you slide into the ditch, I have to scan for the RRDIFFLOCK.
The PO of one of my 4runners can attest to not engaging 4wd while one tire is spinning after getting stuck after sliding into a ditch, pop goes the t-case, mind you his rear brakes where not set up properly to stop that one tire from spinning adding to the likelyhood of this senerio. I'm also unsure if the non multi mode tcase shifter would fit in the limited tcase shifter so you don't have a big hole in the shifter. Sounds like a lot of work to change a pretty good setup IMO.
