WHY DO I WANT ANOTHER 5 SPEED 3RD GEN 4RUNNER??? Lol, but Craigslist has hidden gems if they aren't scams. Got mine for 5k cash off Craigslist too. Good thing it's 20 hours from me!

Haha
Around here the autos are a dime a dozen.
If you're lucky you might find a manual around $5k that isn't 300k miles, rebuilt title, or just thrashed. If you see it, it's gone in a day. All the others still sell quick whether expensive or trashed.
A very nice 99 auto that had a new motor (with receipts, not rebuilt) that looked to be in very good shape and under 200k miles started at 12k and continued to drop in price. I watched it drop over a month (I think last I saw it was at 8k) before I stopped watching.
A quick peek and there are some autos (Limiteds) in the $5k price range still available that were being sold months ago. I don't see any manual 3rd gens for sale at all - in September there were 3 in the $9k-12k (one of which had a rebuilt title) price range.
So no... the manual 3rd gens are not less desirable.

If that was a 2000 3rz manual with 4x4, I would pay that price. Wife would kill me though, but it would be worth it!

Agreed. Very happy with mines. I get offers/interests in my rig from time to time.
It's those dam insurance companies, they see manual trans being bottom basic 4runner.
The funny part was insurance did a search for manual 4x4 4runners...and couldn't find any examples at the time.

Crazy how much these are worth to some. Luckily, I came across one that went for a normal price I was comfortable with.

^ wow, he should just post it as NFS, seems over double what it's worth for a base model v6 sr5 5speed SC and e-locker, rare, I dunno about that either, and I dunno what type of "adjusters" they put in for the doorman lower control arms, doorman brand I'm guessing?, you can tell the old parts where cut off, but you can bet they didn't use any OEM parts on that rig when they "rebuilt" the front suspension to flip it. And the front bumper seems low with large gaps and the passenger front fender doesn't line up with the filler piece below the headlight, accident report free maybe.

Yes prices are rising, here in central texas too. There are many 3rd gen runners, most being driven as just town/mall mobiles, many like them as 3rd or 4th family/utility vehicles that rarely break down...
just read where the '93-'97 LC FZJ80 was named 1 of 10 top classic vehicles in '21:
Classic cars: These 10 collector vehicles are 2021's hottest
To me, that LC's overall body style/shape is the big brother of the 3rd gen and adds to the 3rd gens desirability. My neighbor across the street has one, would like to take it off his hands...

The 3rd gens are just about all gone in my area. Only a couple around here besides my fleet. So in some areas they are gone. Looks like other areas very plentiful yet.
Some decent rigs shown but I really dont think they are worth more then 15k no matter what condition it's in. I know some go insanely high priced but they made a pile of 3rd gens. Mostly less mfg higher values. If you look at the numbers sold the U.S. alone from 1996 to 2002. It's a pile of them.
I am sure a few will be preserved in perfect condition. Which is great. I just dont see 3rd gens going for major money in the future.
Unless I am missing something which is quite possible. Just my thoughts on the matter.

It's very hard to find a 3rd gen here for sale online in Ohio - I still see a ton on them on the road being used to this day. Almost all owners are holding on to them till the wheels fall off.

With Ohio not having Safety inspections. I start being concerned that alot of these are not longer frame safe. You seeing any bending or parts coming off on the side on the road?
