Need some help with my 99 limited

So I had a misfire in cylinder 2, replaced wires (ngk), plugs (ngk dual ground), and the coil on 5/2 (denso or ngk, don't remember which) misfire was still happening so I replaced all the fuel injectors (cheaped out, got remans from Rock Auto) after the fuel injectors, misfire was gone.

But then I got p0172 (running too rich) and white smoke that smelled like gas out the tailpipe, as well as actual gas in the tailpipe. Pulled plugs, all of them looked kinda rich but one of them was like wet with gas, replaced the injector in that one with one of my old ones (with new orings from Toyota) but I'm still getting the p0172 and white smoke.

Do I just switch all the injectors except 2 back to the old ones or is it something else?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have checked the vacuum line that goes to the fuel pressure regulator and there's no gas in it but I don't know if it could break and not put gas in the line.

It's kinda sounding like your injectors are junk. Did you get denso injectors off of rock auto or some other mfg.

I would try what your thinking on your cylinder 2. Put all the originals back in except that one and see what you get.

Also verify your fuel pressure is good at the rail and that fuel regulator is good first. That way if it's bad you may have found the source.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot. I'm not sure what brand they are, they're remanufactured ones, they are brown like the originals so maybe they're remanned originals? I'm not sure. They were remanned by gb remanufacturing.

Anyway I'll give it a shot and put all the old ones back in and update when I'm done. Thanks again.

This is the way I'd go as well. Injectors are key. Cheap ones can do damage. I just redid all six of mine with Motor west rebuilds and no issues. A couple other folks here can vouche for the company as well I believe. I know someone who did a 5vz swap in his 88 pickup and used injectors off rock auto for passenger side since the motor he pulled didn't have those injectors and he was getting random misfire, rich, lean codes. We plugged 3 of my old OEM known good injectors from my job in and no codes no misfires.

Have you ever replaced your upstream O2 sensor? If not, they can go bad without throwing a code. I fixed my P0172 code by replacing it. It can send bad reading to your PCM and cause the system to be too rich/lean.

Wet plugs is not a common issue, I also suspect the injectors. We have a waste spark system that fires twice per combustion cycle per cylinder so either the plug is fouled or that injector is junk. Or both.

Alright so last night I got most of the injectors swapped out to the old ones. There's 2 of the new ones because one of the old ones went missing apparently. Today I drove it around the neighborhood for a while and it is no longer blowing white smoke or running rough but it did throw the p0172 again, just pending for now but yeah.

So I'm thinking either the 2 new injectors are still leaking or putting too much fuel in or maybe the fuel pressure regulator or front o2 (a/f?) Sensor. is there an easy way to check the regulator or the o2 sensor?

EDIT: if I go to get a new o2 sensor, how do I know which one to get? its a 4wd so that part is easy but I have no idea if it's cali emissions or not, there is no sticker under the hood (that I can find at least) it does have 2 cats but I'm pretty sure its not the original exhaust so I'm not sure if that means anything

1 cat is federal 2 cat is CA emission.

Then go here to below link. You can enter vehicle and buy that way. Or call your local Toyota give 'em the last 8 of your vin and they'll give you the correct part number. Then use that part number in the reference section of below link and it'll spit out the matching sensor part.

So I ended up buying injectors from motor west performance, the upgrade from oem ones they have now. Got them today and installed and everything put together in about an hour outside in the snow.

It worked!! I think. Longft is still around -10 but that's a whole lot better than the -30 it was at before and it's not throwing a code anymore or blowing smoke and seems to run a lot smoother so it turns out the injectors from gb remanufacturing were in fact junk. Ive heard of a few others having good luck with them so I guess I'm just unlucky.

Thanks for the help everyone and if you need injectors, motor west is the way to go.

Did your injectors end up fixing the problem? Did you get a chance to look at your spark plugs to see if they had been fouled?
