3rd generation key fobs yes or no?

I am working through a couple things on Betty, my New ;-) 2000 4Runner.
It's an SR5 V6 Auto.
I have got some new keys cut and from what I understand the SR5 should have key fobs.
I have got some and can't seem to enter the programming sequence on the vehicle.
Even took to dealer and they said they could not either and blamed it on the rear door power lock not locking. They said fix the back door and come back.
You would have thought they might have said sorry it does not support key fobs but it was a dealer.

There is a problem with the rear door. There is no rear lock cylinder and the lock actuator does not work. It make some noise but does not move.

I probably will just find a new door from a wrecker as it even with the silly prices in Canada at a wrecker it's cheaper than buying a new lock cylinder, Lock actuator and lock and the missing actuator rod from Toyota. The back window does go up and down. :-)

There are also two holes in the rear door where a previous tried to access the crank for the spare tire. But that can be fixed.

Sorry for rambling but the question is should my SR5 work with Key Fob's or is this an option? It does not seem to have the theft deterrent horn in the engine compartment so I don't think it has the anti theft system.

Thanks
Dave

The dealer is correct. If your door lock motors are worn/tired, they won't be able to lock/unlock to complete the programming sequence. The security computer can sense if the door is locked or unlocked, so it won't program if one of them won't lock/unlock.

You can rebuild the actuators for about 20-30 bucks in parts. Here's a thread - Door Lock Motor Replacement - Toyota 4Runner Forum - Largest 4Runner Forum

I did it on my Land Cruiser, allow 3-4 hours for the job. The first one will take you the longest, and you will only spend 30 minutes on the last one. Use good glue and clamps to hold everything together. Don't get greedy and try to do more than 1 at a time. You risk mixing up parts, or not getting your glue up done properly if you are using a 2 part glue.

^^^ Also peel back the rubber boot, wire loom thing going from your body to your rear hatch and inspect for any damaged wires. They're poorly placed in a pinch point and tend to get split with age
Start small, work big

I also have slow lock actuators. I ment to rebuild or replace my bad units with a used known working unit.
So with slow actuators, I was still able to get into and successfully program a new key fob by manually moving the drivers door lock knobs. Until I lost the fob.
Im confident I'll be able to program a new fob using the same method.

Some ideas.
Thanks
The dealer used the Service tool which uses a different sequence. But moving the levers might help. I think you do have to move the door switch twice instead of the 10 or so times. You would have though the Tech would know that. :-(
I have been reading a couple of threads and it looks like I have the keyless entry as I have the wireless buzzer in the engine compartment.

I will keep bashing away.
