Winch doesn’t fit in Shrockworks bumper

Hey all, I’ve had my Shrockworks bumper on my truck for the past year and it’s been great. I finally ordered a winch (ComeUp 9.5 Seal gen2) which all my friends run and took my bumper off today to install it but it doesn’t fit - the Shrockworks mounting location is actually off-center on the bumper and prevents the holes from lining up. I guess they did this to allow winches with very large motors on one side to fit.

Anyway, I’m at a loss now, I definitely can’t return my winch (and I don’t want to anyways) but finding someone to modify my bumper seems like a huge PITA too. What should I do?

Is the issue that the top plate of the bumper hits the side of your winch? I had to cut a 1/2" strip out of the top of my Coastal Offroad bumper to get my VR Evo to fit. A harbor freight grinder with a flap disc and a cutoff wheel is really all you need if that's the issue, and it's about a 10 minute job, minus paint touchup.

Post some pics.

Here’s a pic of the bumper and the winch. As you can see, the bumper winch mounts are to the left (not centered). This interferes with the winch because the bumper has plating on either side which is used to mount to the frame brackets - thus the winch can’t line up with the holes.

The only solution I see is to weld in more plate and redrill the required holes, which I’m really not looking forward to as I don’t have any experience doing stuff like that.

Your pics aren't loading (for me, at least), but that doesn't sound as simple as I had hoped.

The feet forward mounting is nice, not sure why the holes are offset to one side that seems and looks odd, I assume they made the bumper to fit Warn's standard winch mounting but I'm sure there website lists winches that will work for your bumper, I think smitty built or superwinch use the same mounting as Warn in some models as warn has set the standard. The Warns have a pretty short planetary gear set up on one end about half the size of yours pictured to fit that one side. I'd return the winch and buy a warn and save yourself a bunch of extra holes and fitment issues, if it wasn't meant to fit don't fight it and make it fit your wasting time IMO

Maybe I'm just missing something here, but the pictures you're showing us are where the fairlead mounts. The mounting bolts for the winch should be pointing straight down.

Edit: Looking at the Shrockworks site, and it would appear they use that as the mounting point for the winch and the fairlead both. That's an entirely different setup than my 4x bumper that has the winch plate horizontal. If I were you, I'd look into selling that winch and buying one the bumper was designed for to save some hassle.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Yeah the bolt patterns match up just the gearset / winch brake make it impossible to mount like that. I honestly didn’t realize the winch mount was offset like this until today because I had my license plate covering all the holes. Even if I did get a different winch I don’t know if I’d be able to live with looking at an offset winch mount like that every day so I am probably going to center the mount. I’ll contact my local fab guy and let you all know what I decide

I'm a lil baffled that a Shrockworks 3rd gen 4R bumper has the winch mount and fairlead offset, except to maybe fit a Zeon or 10,000lb + winch, which I would think would be a custom order, a M8000 would fit centered in that space pictured eyeballing it.., and IMO 8000lb warn is about right for a 3rd gen 4R average user, maybe not for the avid hardcore user pulling line every trip out. Feet forward winch mounting is the best for a winch. You could always bastardize the planetary side of your winch to work with smaller parts, but now your getting into the unknown again so not worth the hassle, UnLeSs that winch company offers smaller planetary controls you could swap over..

If your not wireless, do yourself a favour and relocate the contact box under the hood close to the firewall and route your wires for the wired control into the cab so you can use it without having to plug in and drape wires over the hood with a window open. And a roller fairlead doesn't look like it would fit well on the lower bolt holes, so you might need a synthetic line and a hawse fairlead, I assume you didn't order this bumper.
