2001 3rd gen remote start/transponder bypass

I have done/read the search and cant find an answer other than ....get a new chipped key

1)recently bought a 2001 that has a remote starter installed

2) truck has a chipped key, and only came with one ( so transponder system I guess)

3) Has the remote start system , works fine, remote starts with no keys in car and shuts off like its supposed to. ( also does the door locks, so I didnt get the toyota fob ), is that bypassing the transponder so I can just go get a standard $5 key made ( thus not spending 150 for each spare key, I need 2 if not 3 total keys)

4) redneck.....what if I just hide the chip key, like glue/tape up behind dash, will car register the key is near, and let me run a "standard non chipped " key.
If that does work, can I take a chipped key to a lock shop and have them cut a non chip key from it ? Or does the chip key have to be in ignition cylinder ?

5) do chipped keys have a life..... like only last X number of years

6) I still have my fobs from my 2000, can they be programmed to run the 2001 as spares for the doors yet still have my remote start fob work

thanks, never owned a car before with a chip key system that needed spares or had issues

The remote installer might have used a hidden chip key to bypass the transponder.
I'd get a regular key cut and see if it works.

thats my plan tomorrow when i get the truck back. its in a shop getting real snow tires, alignment and oil change. I can do oil change normally, but its -14 right now and I dont feel like laying in the snow to do it
if it does not work I will try what jgue467 suggested

Do you have the Toyota immobilizer system?, it will say on the ignition ring, I don't think you can have the key just close to the ignition it needs to be inside the the ignition cylinder to work, I remember trying a cut key on a 99 with Toyota immobilizer that wasn't programmed and placed the other key next to it and it wouldn't start so not sure how they did the remote start.

You can only add a master key, spare and valet key and you might have to remove a key to be able to add a new key with a different RF, the chip doesn't wear out just the key cut over time.

If you have a master key it should be easier to add new keys using the throttle brake dance sequence, if you place the key in the ignition and the security light in the centre dash goes out immediately you have a master key.

You should have a fob that can roll the back window down, so I'm not sure how they added this fob and remote system to work in your truck and the added remote start system.

when you say ignition ring, do you mean the plastic that circles the cylinder ?
will look to see if a light goes out when key in tomorrow.
the fob that came with it is an Astrostart fob.. The system is a 625 from paper in glove box. It starts the car remote, locks and unlocks doors. Thats all it does.

thanks for the input
