Help with front end noise - under compression after speed bumps

List of parts replaced so far:

Upper and Lower Control arms & eccentric bolts
Swaybar endlinks
Springs & Dampeners
Transmission mount
steering rack bushings
inner and outer tie rods
front diff carrier arms / bushings

Noise happens under a significant downward force on the front end, seems isolated to the drivers side. Kind of a repeated click clunking and isn't always repeatable. Will attempt to record and update but, anyone have any ideas? I'm running out of stuff to check/replace at this point.

How fast are you hitting the speed bumps?

List of things it could be..
1. CV axles clicking/worn out?
2. LBJ's worn or loose?
3. Upper Ball Joints worn?
4. Wheel bearing?

Just some ideas...Not sure if you have replaced this stuff. The mileage on your truck. If the parts you replaced recently are OEM/aftermarket. How old/worn your shocks/struts/springs are. Could be something in the engine bay rattling around.

Thanks,
LBJ's and UBJ's replaced, toyota on the lower, SPC on the upper with the control arms. Everything is either brand new or no more than 20K miles old.

Even has the indy shop mechanic stumped so far. I thought about the cv's and wheel bearings, that's about all I've got left suspension wise. Can't think of anything that's in the bay or otherwise that might cause it.

They actually just replaced the driver's front axle recently due to the boot being ripped. I've taken a lot of cars apart and put them back together and I'm totally stumped.

I'd say hitting one of those speed hump type deals at 15 to 20 mph is what causes it. I know it's not a baja truck but it has 5100's and 880/906's. I should be able to go over bumpy stuff somewhat aggressively without damaging it I'm hoping.

Fixed the clunk!

Hi Everyone,
Just bumping my own thread, hopefully someone benefits from this info.

No more clunkkkkk!!!!

The problem was the springs/shocks combination. The OME 880's were just too stiff for the 5100's (3rd gen specific) to cope with on a full compression rebound, resulting in the clunk. Everything was installed to specs with toyota strut mounts, springs mounted on the lowest perch.

There were no real problems with driving or anything, it wasn't even too stiff for what are basically lift springs. It just made a clunk when going over certain large speed bumps or very steep incline entrances to parking lots and driveways.

I upgraded to 6112's. If you're on the fence, they're definitely worth the extra money. I don't have hub to fender measurements yet, still settling. I went with 7 drivers side / 6 passenger, I'll update with measurements at some point.

Interesting. I actually just bought 3rd gen 4runner specific 5100s for the rear to go with my 906 springs i have on it. The OME shocks i got with the lift are just way to stiff for me. Even with steel bumpers on it and some other added stuff. I can only afford the rear 5100s right now but was planning on getting 5100s for the front too.

I have the OME 881 springs up front which i think are suppose to be a little stiffer than the 880. Ill have to look into the 6112 instead. I definitely dont want any clunking going on.

Thanks for the info and thank for you posting what the problem turned out to be too. Ive came across several posts where i was having the same issues as OP but they either never found the problem or never came back to tell everyone what it was when they found it out. So kudos to you man.

Are you still running 5100s in the back? Why did you go with new springs too instead of keeping the 880s?
