Yes Trans-Go shift kit. I used the "truck" shift springs, I heard the "race" shift ones were so harsh that people regret installing them.

Was it difficult to install ? You go the SK 340 kit?

Anything that helps the transmission is a good investment imo.

Are you thinking about an LS swap? Just curious based on your name. I've considered putting a 5.3L (even stroking it to a 5.7L) in my '99 just for fun.

If you haven't seen TurboTom's Firebolt build it's worth the watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRew...cMJHz_vnNhSLIg. He puts a Turbo 5.3L LS engine in his Tacoma that used to have the 2RZ engine, similar to our 4Runner's 3RZ engine. It's insane.

Yes, it was difficult. I used Black798's guide here: Transgo 340-hd2 install and reveiw. It's the one linked here: Unusual Activity Detected. The hard part is that the diagrams are not vehicle specific. Our transmission is found in a host of Toyotas and even some Jeeps and each have different check ball locations.

Copy that. Thank you. Ill do some more research into the process to see if its something i am able and willing to do or not.

I was able to find this video for the A340's which shows everything except for the value body modifications. Definitely made it seem less intimidating.

Valve body is the tricky part, little balls in it. During disassembly balls can fall out never to be found again if performing job on hard surface, lol. Beach towel for size saves the day. These balls are different sizes go in different locations, balls do wear best to replace if your doing a high milage trans. Boost valve wears good to replace it also.

Yeah I figured the valve body was the trickest. In Black798's guide he said that part was pretty straight forward though. So I am hoping for the best and am confident I can do this.

You're right, if I am going to go that deep into the transmission might as well replace as much as I can. Valve body balls, boost valve, 340-hd2 kit, shift solenoid and filter. Anything else I should add to the list? I plan on replacing my trans cooler lines and adding a temp gauge on the out line when I do all of this too. Going to be a busy ass weekend.

Also, where the hell would I buy the boost valve, solenoid and valve body balls at?

That's what happened to mine, the check balls fell out because when I took the bolts out to split the valve body, it slipped out of my hand because of all the oil. I put it back together only to find it ran absolutely terrible. With Black798's help I sent some photos of my valve body and we were able to get it back together. I also did lose a check ball but I had a junked transmission in the backyard so stole one from that transmission.

For reference, there's three different valve body designs in our 4Runner's alone. 96-98, 99-00, and 01-02. They all have different check ball locations.

So how would I find out which A340 version I have?

Dumb question but has someone attempted to stuff a 2JZ engine on a 3rd gen? I think i've only see if happen on a 2nd gen. It would be cool for a sleeper truck to take supercars to gapplebees.

Sonnax Boost Valve Kit - 97855-23K, Dig around here lotta info & parts.
I called dealer parts, hit online sites used VIN no one could tell me which VB ver. I had found out when I pulled pan.
Not a hard job just treat it like your doing heart surgery, Good luck.

That would be cool. I too have only seen 2nd Gens, no 3rd gens that I know of. Motor swaps aren't as popular with 3rd Gens because of the abundance of superchargers.
