Maintenance consumables

I just got a new to me 2000 4runner and would like to do a maintenance base line for the truck.
So I was wonder what is everyone using for there maintenance routing for oils, filters, liquids and such?

Also, any recommendations for trusted sites to order from?

On a side note,
How can I perform search only on the 3rd gen forum and not the whole site?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on the new rig.

For fluids I used a combo of Mobil1 for diff, oil, transfer case. I used OEM ATF and Filters. For the OEM stuff I ordered from McGeorge Toyota online, best OEM pricing I have seen thus far. For the mobil one I used 20% off coupons for Advance Auto and purchased online then pick up in store. Im tempted to try the Amsoil route out next go around though. I have heard lots of good things and seen plenty of videos to know its high quality stuff.

As for the search, the way I have always done it is on the main 3rd gen page there is a search bar you can type in.

I use McGeorge Toyota for parts :Select Parts Category - 2000 Toyota 4Runner | Toyota Parts but you can also check out camelback toyota and partsouq.com. Partsouq.com is in the Middle East so shipping times can be longer but sometimes the parts are that much cheaper there that it's worth paying the shipping and waiting.

For fluids I use synthetic 75-90 axle fluid, toyota red coolant (I think zerex makes an aftermarket red coolant for asian vehicles too), synthetic mobil1 5w30 engine oil, toyota engine oil filter 90915-YZZD1, and Dexron VI transmission fluid. MAke sure whatever transmission fluid you use is backwards compatible to Dexron III.

I have the same year truck and since you just got it, there are 3 items that you might want to replace if it hasn't been done:

VERY crucial if it hasn't been done:

1. Lower Ball Joints (every 100k) (ONLY OEM)
2. Radiator (200k + on original, replace) (ONLY OEM)

Less crucial but still important:

* Timing Belt if it hasn't been done

Right now at the moment, I'm working on those 3 items which are way overdue but after these 3 things are ok, then its just the regular oil changes, transmission services (every 30k) and other stuff like power steering fluid and brake fluid services (I think every 2-3 years for brake fluid). Take care of it and it's a very solid truck.

Most owners love to neglect the truck and just change the oil - later one day when the front wheel breaks off and folds under the truck (LBJ FAILURE), they later wonder "why did it break on me?"

Walmart has the best price for oil and filters. I use the motorcraft FL400s. Any synthetic oil they sell is good and 5 dollars cheaper than an autoparts store.

They also have the best price for windshield wipers and fluid. I use the Rainex

Oh boy, you asked for oil recommendations. Get ready for 20 different answers. I won't add to the long list.

Best site for cheap parts (including some OEM parts like from DENSO, NGK, and Aisin) is Rockauto: 2000 TOYOTA 4RUNNER 3.4L V6 Parts | RockAuto. I linked to your specific year. They also sell body and suspension parts, along with odds and ends like wire connectors. They are a forum sponsor as well and offer a 5% off code year round, just find them in the sponsor section of our forum and look for the most recent code.

McGeorge Toyota is the cheapest online US based Toyota dealer like mentioned by others. Use them for parts that you can't compromise on like the before mentioned lower ball joints. Actually, that applies to all steering parts really.

If you are short on money but have plenty of time, PartSouq has a warehouse overseas in UAE that ships OEM parts. I can confirm that they are genuine Toyota parts as I've used them before: PartSouq Auto Parts Around the World. You just need your frame code and VIN to verify the correct parts. It can also help to look up the Toyota part number on McGeorge and then copy it into PartSouq to compare pricing. Some parts like sensors and more complex assemblies are offered at a deep discount.

If you plan on doing a timing belt in the near future, many of us use the Ebay seller aircabinman. His company sources OEM parts and offers them at discounts compared to dealer prices. Plus saves you from having to piece together all the parts. He sells a minimal kits with just belts and water pump: V6 3.4 TIMING BELT KIT & WATER PUMP Genuine & OE Manufacture Parts! | eBay or the whole kit and caboodle to replace everything, plus a few other common parts that fail: Timing Belt Kit for Tundra 4Runner Tacoma T100 Belts Rollers Seals PCV | eBay.

Thank you, I like this 4r and it seems like a good truck.

As for the google search bar on top, I get results from all forums and not just the 3rd gen.

I agree with you on been on top of PM, I'm going to do the LBJ and radiator (seems like I have the original one and 176k miles I think it's to replace it for the peace of mind).
The timing belt was just done 3 months ago, so I'm good there.

I'm ok with getting as much answers as I can get, the reason is I want to know what people use, and then I can make a choice base on the recommendations.

Don't forget to change out the bolts too for the lbj's while you're changing out the lbjs.

Click the link (https://www.google.com/search?q=site...hrome&ie=UTF-8), click the search bar, hit space, then type what you're looking for.

For example, if you wanted to search for timing belt replacement it would look like this in the search bar: https://www.google.com/search?newwin...4dUDCA0&uact=5

oil/fluids are 100% "it's more important that you HAVE fluid than the brand", with the "have" part covering the right grade and volume/level... past that, I doubt you can buy something in the US that would be "bad". Shorter change intervals? Sure, organic vs synthetics cover that.

Fluid BRANDS are 100% personal preference. You can't make a wrong choice, only the best choice for you.
