Strut Mount Bolt Length

After welding up my eimkieth strut reinforcement plates I fit up some new monroe strut mounts which I've used in the past. The serrated bolts seem a bit short for comfort.

Strut Mount Bolt Length

Anyone have some input on this? I think the OEM strut mount bolts are longer.

I'd hate to drop $140 on OEM mounts when these aftermarkets were much more reasonable. I guess I could try and find some longer hardware I could put in the plates but that might be a stretch.

Suggestions on other brands of aftermarket strut mounts?

Thanks

1- Just wanted to say-- clean looking work!

2- I will probably be crucified for this, but what you're showing here is probably safe. 4-5 threads into the nut is pretty decent engagement. Optimal? nah. heeeck nah actually. Optimal would be threads showing past the nut. But, if you're in a pinch, you can run this on the street no problem.

What you can (and probably should do) in the long-term is take the shock out, disassemble it, knock those studs out, and put these in:

2" Top Plate Stud, Set of 6

This way it's simple, and you dont need an entirely new top plate assembly.

edit-- just noticed the strut isnt there in your pic. Yeah dude-- grab these longer studs and get her going

Are you doing some sort of frame-off resto or something? Just noticed how clean the brake lines and bracket was. Super awesome if so.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll order those studs and try them out.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a frame-off since the body is still on my rusty frame. I'm just building from the ground up with a donor frame and then I'll do the body swap once it's rolling. Should be very very clean once it's all said and done. Check out the 2.0 build thread in my signature and follow along if you want.

Watch out with that stud kit. I messed up my OEM mount when I put my Top Plate kit on, and bought a KYB mount to put the stud kit on. The knurling was different on the KYB Mount, I imagine the Monroe is going to be similar.

I ended up buying a Junkyard Strut to get an OEM mount and put my studs on there.

As Always, YMMV.

Try the OEM nuts for the top plate, you'll find they are about an 1/8" shorter than the aftermarket hardware and better quality, and the aftermarket Top Plates have a lil more thread, you should be fine without pressing new studs out and in, and it will look safe/proper capturing all the threads on the nut, although not necessary technically.
