Vibration at high speed and acceleration
Hi,
I just had a shop install a new clutch. Everything with the car is good. It has a tom woods drive shaft. I am having a problem with vibration under acceleration. It gets faster as the car gets faster and is only if I am applying the gas. Once I take my foot off the gas it stops. It is fine at lower speeds. Tires were balanced recently.
Please advise,
Mr. Man

Was the vibration there before the clutch replacement?
The shop that did the clutch had your tranny and transfer case out on the floor. Both driveshafts were out too. There are a lot of places they could have introduced a problem.

it was but not to the same extent. It gets faster as the car goes faster. Like at 70mph it is so fast its almost not there.

For me it was the driveshaft, very noticeable at 45-65miles under load with acceleration, vehicle would sit at 2750rpms keeping speed going up large hills at 60mi, kick it down a gear made it seem better, 32.5" tires 4.30 ratio. Bought a new aftermarket DS with spicer joints, seemed better for awhile, 1000miles, vibe and a whom whom you can feel in the tcase shifter came back worse, but really was never solved at highway speed, replaced rear diff ECGS, then pressed my own OEM bearings on, same vibe, PCK welded on, new poly rear body mounts, all new front and rear sway bar bushings and links, complete new oem/ome/bilstein suspension, adjusted the suspension heights and all static OEM bushings, front LCA whiteline bushings, OEM OTR and LBJ, dealer aligned x2, found play at cardan joint, needle greased the aftermarket centre bearing made it better for 20miles, added sound deading, replaced transmission mount, OE plug wires, coil swap from good rig,.. bought an OEM DS, vibe disappeared, but a noise persisted. Exhaust drone with 2.5" cat back, no CEL codes, replaced original TPS with OEM, because I wasn't seeing 11-25% TPS on scan gauge and nothing in-between and hard off/on throttle response and shifts, new TPS shifts and drives better, less exhaust drone as it doesn't sit at 2750rpm under light throttle going uphill, smoother vehicle, much more consistent TPS and LTFT readings. Tires and rims swapped on and off completely, main culprit was DS and TPS ironically, everyone will have a different experience I realize. I should have checked the rear axle shafts for runout, but seems smooth now so never bothered, but that could be a hard one to pin point and wise to do while you're at it.

Mine was a new DS aswell, sooo it cost me thousands and a lot of work and my own time to revisit the rear DS as a possibility, take the DS off and go for a rip, any vibes, or vibes coming from the tcase shifter with and without DS. Could be a rear axle shaft aswell, I'd also try other known smooth rim tire combo to eliminate possibilities. Vibes are hard to narrow down onsite let alone website, could even be a bearing front or rear, even the front diff bearing, vibes travel.

Well in that case I would ask for a noise/vibration technician to identify and isolate the issue on road tests and inspections, if you get a good tech you're golden, a novice tech might cost you. You might be wise to spend a lil time trying some of the things suggested to narrow down the vibe as most techs will look at any lack of service as a suspect all the way down to fluids, exhaust, brakes, bearings, axles, diff, rims, tires, tuneup, and especially a aftermarket DS ect., and can become expensive, so be sure to focus on this problem and let the tech do as he thinks best to solve the main issue, good luck.
*I should probably mention Toyota dealerships are not Toyota, just a shop with rights and access to the VIN, FSM, Recalls, TSB's and rights to sell Toyota vehicles and parts, so it all comes down to the techs experience working on it.

I've been chasing a very similar vibration for a while and am now realizing it is the brand new custom driveshaft I had made for me.
Don't get cocky because your parts are new.
