2000 sr5 4wd suspension upgrade
Purchased a 2000 sr5 4wd last year. It is my daily driver now.
Looking to do a 3" lift on the vehicle. Car will almost excusively be driven on the road, occasionally driven off road but just light off road duty.
Have looked into the bilstein 5100/ome kit.
any others i should look into?
also, is it advisable to replace the upper control arms? or any other suspension parts when doing a 3" lift?

There are probably hundreds of lift discussions if you search the forum.
What you mentioned is pretty standard, with a spacer lift being the minimum you could do. Replacing the upper arms is probably not necessary if you don't plan to do anything too extreme. Doing so gets you some extra downward travel, assuming you pair the springs and dampers appropriately.
In general you need to consider panhard bar angle, CV angles, rear brake lines, and bump stops when lifting.

at about the 4th one down there is a link that wil take you to 52+ pages of discussion on lifts
and of course this great help of MTBTM 3rd Gen T4R DIY Maintenance, Repair and Modification Videos
you state that it wont go off road, then why a 3 inch lift...for looks ? you can do lifts less than 3 inches , like 2 inch . with just spacers Hitting the 3 inch territory yourve got tons of other things going on, differetial drops, panhard correction extended brake lines, wear on cv joints, even the rear u joint gets pushed a bit and some pull the zerk fitting out so it does not hit and break with the new angle, lots of thins can all come into play when you hit that 3 inch and above.
Another option would be like a 1.5 inch suspension lift with spacers, and a 1 inch body lift. that will almost look like a 3 inch lift.

For a situation just like this, I would advise you put whichever 5100's you decide on the top perch, put on whichever springs, add spacers and wheel spacers aswell, and use the cheapest aftermarket LBJ 's you can get, the most expensive UCA, 35" tires and send it to the the mall.

thanks, i will look through the lift information thread.
we have had many 4runner in the family but never any that have been modified.
i have owned a few honda s2000s and did some modifications on them, but when it comes to mods on the 4runner I know nothing of how it works and the things to look out for.
and yes, i basically just want a few inch lift, and in the future a nice set of wheels and larger tires. and yes, its just for aesthetics.
but on my vehicles, i like to do it the right way with quality parts. so I don't mind spending extra money on doing it right the first time.
my 2000 sr5 4wd still only has 95k miles on it, so she has a lot of life left in her!

Make sure you have a fresh set of lower ball joints and oem bolts on there because lifting will put more stress on them and they are a big source of catastrophic failures and totaled vehicles.
You can lift 3” with no upper control arms or panhard correction, it won’t hurt anything, I did it for many thousands of miles however the control arms and a better alignment were a game changer for me as far as drivability and the panhard correction helped a good bit too. I also had to run wheel spacers with 285s to keep from rubbing before I got upper arms.
If it’s just for looks you can do a spacer lift, it might be an unpopular opinion on here but there’s nothing wrong with a lift and big tires for looks, the entire Jeep community does it and if that’s how you get enjoyment from the vehicle go for it.
