Cabin air filter in 3rd gens?
We'll, the title pretty much sums up my question. Does anyone know if our 3rd gens have a cabin air filtration system? I read that many companies started using them in 2000.

I don't recall ever seeing any pics. What I do remember is reading about it though. Either here or maybe on one of the other Toyota forums.
I'll see if I can find it.

I think I've seen it on the 1st gen Tacomas and they did something like cut up a house air filter to fit somewhere in the HVAC system. At least that seems familiar.

There is something...
There is an auxiliary cabin filter that was offered in Japan for the 3rd Gen. It replaces the overhead door light and filters in cabin air. Toyota afterwards developed its Ion and Minus Ion in cabin systems. Why never offered Stateside is anyone's guess.

Second shot
I always have an issue attaching multiple pics but here is a close up. You can see the different light setup in addition to the modes of the filter system

トヨタ純正清浄機
Here is one of the two prominent models, one I believe can affix to the rear of the 3rd Gen where you have the four plastic caps in the roof. Only OEM option I came across for this was a fishing rack Toyota offered. Believe the second generation unit attached here is installed on a Prius.

初代目の
This is the one I believe attaches without much issue to the red of the 3rd Gen. There's also a switch made for these you can put in the dash. New they retail for about $200 and are very effective filter systems.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. Forget about a filter, we want to hear more about this fishing rack!
