Rear Bumper for Protection Choices?

Looking for a rear bumper more for protection than high lift.

What's out there? I have got an ARB up front.

Any aftermarket rear bumper from a reputable fabricator is going to give you better protection than the stock assembly.

If you just want protection without increased ground clearance then just throw on a hitch and call it a day.

I like my CBI Dual Swingout Bumper. It's well built and can be customized to fit your needs.

Having a rear hitch provides good protection. Addicted off road rear bumper is pretty good.

My '97 SR-5 came with the standard bumper and hitch. I kept bashing my shins on the protruding hitch. So I spent about 15 days, about 15 or 20 minutes a day sawing off the protruding part of the hitch with a hacksaw. The day I finished, some air head in an expensive Mercedes sports car rolled into the hitch at a stop sign. For the next few months, I enjoyed momentarily stopping at the rear end of the car to admire the little strip of white Mercedes paint that he left on my otherwise unharmed hitch.

I have a Shrockworks rear bumper, and that thing is incredibly solid. There's something like 10 or 12 bolts that attach it to the frame, and I wouldn't hesitate to jack the truck up by it, or tow with it. 4Runner Rear Bumper & Tire Rack, 3rd Gen (1996-2002)

Probably not what you're really asking for but I use a product called Super Bumper that actually attenuates a rear end impact. I makes a handy step and tie off point but I would definitely take it off before going offroad since it would hang up. It helps keep tailgaters further back, even though it would help both of us if one bumped me.
