It's funny what some people would pay, but glad it went for 22k, since that helps all us owners.

Mine is a 00 with 205k miles... and is in equally good condition, problem with paying a premium for this particular car is mileage doesn't really matter. For what I paid for my 00 10 years ago, I was able to do all my mods and still come out ahead. The biggest issue is getting any insurance company to insure it for 22k. Not to mention all the inevitable wear/tear items that will need to be proactively worked on.

I'd rather buy one for 10k and do a bunch of mods and proactive stuff. That way I wouldn't be scared to take it offroad or even drive on road with it. With this one, I'd be scared to do anything with it.

I want to know what the flipper paid for it in Nov. 2020. $10K? Maybe 12K?

I went the aftermarket route on my 2000. It alllows me to heat the back and bottom or just the back. So I can use it all year round (I usually hate bottom seat heat... but find back seat heat very soothing, so use that often).

The thing too pristine to use it like I do the one I have, Mall Crawler.
The other one was a '96 with under 6K miles and a member here owned it. He was originally asking $25K then I suggested listing it on BAT, sold for $43K.

I still have the photos posted up 1996 4runner help

@Ed_C, not total apple's to apple's comparison 6k mi would def put it in primo category, comparison based on condition mostly.
It interesting seeing 3rd Gens hitting surpassing resale prices of 80 series LC's when they were peaking keeping pace anyway.
Recall this scenario in forum discussion 20 yrs ago happening, kinda cool seeing it take place.

I bought 01 Ltd 4x4 198k $3450 good roots with some issues, @ $16k now after Refurb Drive Train mods n stuff who knows I might sell mine.
I pass along BaT to anyone selling above avg stuff, I'm looking at M/B Unimog portal axle stuff for a project brewing.

I think in the past 2 years, I've definitely been seeing a newfound interest in the 3rd gens. I think buyers are coming to realize, that compared to say an FJ80, the 3rd gens have these going for it:
  1. It's smaller and more maneuverable
  2. Has a lot more parts available for it, for cheap.
  3. Rack and Pinion steering vs. Recirc ball (which is disgusting compared to RP)
  4. Newer technology and a rock solid engine (just like the FJ80, though it can have that rear cooling leak )
  5. Rock Solid Trans (like FJ80)
  6. Power rear window is fantastic
  7. Can be used on the street as well as on the trails
  8. Better mileage and better power/weight and you can supercharge!

I think you'll see, in the next 5 years, that the 3rd gens WILL be the next hot classic to own, esp when rust free and in excellent condition, regardless of miles. Especially if it's accident free, clean title, rear lockers. I feel that the 99-00 will command the highest prices, followed by 96-98 and then the 01-02 (due to lack of rear diff locks and that faulty and expensive ABS/TRAC system that tends to fail often plus transmission issues due to that silly internal redesign.)
