I've been reading the steering wheel swap threads and I realize that I want to remove the whole CC system - actuator, cable, module, stalk, etc. Is there anything to be careful of when doing so? The way I work is that I often create new problems when trying to simplify things. I never, ever use CC and would like the engine bay space for a small compressor or other accessory in the future. Are there any electrical terminations or circuitry to consider before just unbolting and unclipping everything? This would make swapping in a new wheel at some point a bit easier as well. I should probably test that the CC system works and save all the parts for someone else - looks like most OEM CC parts are now discontinued. I've searched for a related thread and came up empty so maybe this means there aren't really any potential pitfalls? Thanks

If I were to delete the cruise control I would make sure to weatherproof the connector end the is under the hood for the cruise control module/actuator. There are a few wires that communicate with the transmission, ecm, and instrument cluster. That may cause issues if you get water or corrosion in that connector. If you are sure that you'll never reinstall (and future buyer's won't mind) I would cut the connector off and heat shrink all the wire ends. Or you could try packing the connector full of dielectric grease and wrapping it in a plastic bag or saran wrap. Just my $0.02

If I were adding a compressor I would aim to place it where heat is not a factor, there are several other places where heat isn't so much of an issue, just my thoughts, luck however you do it.

@Endlessblockades I don't mean to resurrect an old thread, but did you end up following through with the cruise control delete? If so, how was it and what did you end up doing? Pictures please if ya did

Nope - I flaked on that job.....

I pulled out my CC module and cable a couple years ago, wrapped that big connector in electrical tape really well and haven't had any issue so far.

Did it give you additional engine bay space?

The only thing I could think of if there's a shared ground. The cruise control works separate from the ECU in 96-00, not sure about 01-02 though as it's an electronic throttle but those years don't have the bulky cable system anyway so no reason to remove it.

I have seen this done many times for dual battery setups as well as really fancy turbo builds and I never hear of any issues. Take it off, drive it for a week or so with the parts and tools in the back. If something goes wrong, just put it back in. If not, you're golden and drive happy.

Well said. Thank you! It's not something that's on my to-do list necessarily, but I was curious what it would look like if I were to do it. A guy I follow on Instagram/YouTube buys old Toyotas, repairs and modifies them, then sells them, and I've seen him do the CC delete a few times now. Was just curious about it.
