Black widow exhaust, Venom 300 series

I am in the market for a new muffler and cat and want something loud when I get on it but reasonably quiet cursing around town. I stumbled on the black widow venom 300 series and listened to it on an fj and another v6 and it sounded good and if it'll fit, it's a 3". http://www.blackwidowexhaust.com/shop#!/Venom-300-series-–-$129-00/c/15730042/offset=0&sort=normal
Wondering if anyone can say how it is on a 4Runner. And does an aftermarket cat make it louder or just more throaty? Also looking for a cat as well.

Did you ever install the black widow exhaust? I'm thinking about making the upgrade as well

Probably more quiet than what you're looking for but I love the sound of my walker quietflow SS. It's definitely louder and deeper than stock but sounds awesome and is not obnoxious at all. I would never call it loud but it's quite noticeable compared to stock. Love it.

Just gonna say right now to just forget mufflers that are anything other than stock-like. They all sound like ass and drone, it sucks.

You might be like me, looking for sound in the wrong place... Intake sound is what you want.

A few tips about mufflers:

The longer the body, the more mellow the sound. Doesn't mean it's quiet, it just means that when you aren't getting on it the sound will be minimal but once you get on the gas it'll be noticeable.

Straight-through muffler designs or "glass packs" are generally louder and offer more performance gains than a stock baffled muffler.

The shorter the muffler the more it drones. You may not like how it sounds on long freeway drives if you go with a short one. Our exhaust pipe is closer to 2.25", so a 2.5" muffler is the correct size. I found that the center/offset fits best, similar to the stock muffler.

I had a Borla 2.5" muffler of similar size and really liked how it sounded. Low Rumble at idle, quiet enough on the freeway but really sounded good upon heavy throttle. My current one is a 14" body and it's very loud, a bit too loud to be honest.

For catalytic converters on the cheap, look at Magnaflow's product line. I have one on mine and passes emissions with flying colors and was only $199.99.

I had the borla also, the 40665, it is the longer of the two that fit the 4runner best with the correct off sets and diamenter, the sound was good and not too loud. not ricey. they are stainless steel, or used to be . When my current one needs it, it will prob be a borla again.

As far as the cats and the rest of the system...well I dont have a good answer there. Hope I dont need a cat or two and I have a 420 code right now and have not yet installed the new Denso O2 sensor
