Oil filter option

I was going to buy a WIX oil filter product number 51348xp and amazon says it doesn't fit. Go to WIX's website and it says it does fit. wtf? Or should I just a Puro PL10241 One and just be done with it? FYI I have a 2000 4runner limited 6cyl w/270k on it.

People take advice from Amazon? The place that sells brakes for a 2015 civic then promptly says they don't fit any Honda? Good god...
Just go to the damn store. Wix is fine, they'll find the exact one for you.

I love purolator Boss products, go with this one (and yes amazon says it fits a 3rd gen runner w/3.4):

Amazon.com: Purolator PBL10241 PurolatorBOSS Maximum Engine Protection Spin On Oil Filter, Black: Automotive

Go to Walmart and buy the OEM filter or get a FL400s.

With napa and Walmart’s everywhere why mail order it?

The Walmart’s in my area sell many OEM filters. But I use the FL400s it’s the larger filter and 3.75 and a PL series filter.

Amazon is only as good as the parts database that is uploaded into it. If you know of a case on this forum where that part number will fit, then it probably will.

That said, if you want any sort of warranty protection then I would use Wix's catalog to choose the filter number for their exact vehicle.

Also, who wants to go to Walmart? It already sucked before and now it is the home base for people that wear disposable facemasks on their chins.

I use to run Wix and Purolator on my car, they are really good quality. On the 4R I buy the 2nd Gen Taco oil filter 90915-yzzD3, its cheap, larger capacity, and OEM.

Those are sold at Walmart in my area. It’s also the cheapest place to get motor oil.

You could get OEM ones too if you have a dealership nearby. Then you'll know that they'll fit.

Copied this from an older thread. Most people suggest going with an oversize option. I was using the Purolators forever until I came across a good deal on some Toyota oversize filters on amazon. I also noticed one of my local walmarts is actually stocking some Toyota filters.

---Make-------Stock------Oversize
Amsoil--------EAO57------EAO34
Fram---------PH3614-----PH3600
K&N----------HP-1002----HP-2009
Mobil---------M1-102-----M1-209
Motorcraft----ML-910s----ML-400s
Napa---------1348-------1516
Purolator-----PL10241-----PL20195 (most people suggesting the "boss" versions of these filters, PBL10241/PBL20195)
Wix-----------51348xp------51516xp
Toyota--90915-YZZD1---90915-YZZD3 (<---10 packs)

The Motorcraft FL400s belongs on the oversized list.

Yes, and it's well constructed and will provide the filtration your engine needs, why mess around with aftermarket?

After more thought, if a dealership is nearby, I can't see why you would try to pursue aftermarket options, unless it's convenience. At best you're saving $3 per filter by going aftermarket, and the filter is good for at least 5000 miles, so the savings are negligible. The only thing an aftermarket filter could offer is filtration that is BETTER than what Toyota recommends. So your gain is what?

I've been using full synthetic Mobil1 oil and Mobil1 102-A filter since I got this truck and it's been fine. Amazon.com: Mobil 1 M1-102A Extended Performance Oil Filter: Automotive

Bingo! This is not about saving a lousy buck- its totally, completely and absolutely all about Better Filtration.

I use the purolator Boss filters (air, oil, fuel) rated for 20K but of course I don't drive 20K between OCs, only 5K, yes it cost me more but I like it that way.
