Lower valance swap

I've been going through lots of old threads trying to find what type of fasteners I need to hold a 96-98 lower valance onto the front bumper. I have a '99 but the PO switched to a '98 upper bumper because he didn't like the fat lip. (I agree, but I think with fender flares the fat lip looks better.)

I found these in one thread, and they go with these. If anyone knows if these will work, or if there's a better option, I appreciate the help.

That cat knows but he /she won't tell you. To the point, the attached is a diagram for 2000 with a fat lip bumper but you can put your Vin into the toyotapartsouq.Com and it will show you the diagram for your fender and you can cross reference them with what you have.

Thanks Spartacus. I always forget about the great diagrams on that site. I found a vin for a random ‘98 and put it in, and got this:

It’s got a reference to a different page for the parts I need, but no way to get there. Any ideas?

10mm head bolts

I just recently replaced my lower valance: Shawnathan9's Build Thread

The metal bumper attaches to the lower valance using around 6-8 10mm head bolts that fasten into the lower valance which is supposed to have metal clip on nuts for that thread type. The parts you listed are correct from what I recall.

It's much easier to do this job with the bumper off of the rig.

Now if your new lower valance doesn't have any holes as guides then you should align it against your 96-98 bumper which "should" have some existing holes. Simply line up the clip on nuts and then fasten away.

Lower valance swap

Awesome. Mine came with the holes so I think it should be smooth sailing. It’s gonna be interesting to see how the truck looks because I’ve never seen it with a bumper on…

Yes, which is funny because she really doesn’t like sitting in the truck while I’m working on it. Although, I left the trunk open once and she fell asleep on top of my socket set, which was pretty cute.
