2002 4Runner Front Passenger Side - Carpet Soaked

Looking for some help on a 2002 4Runner – 321,043 miles – have had it 14 years. And it’s been my primary vehicle throughout. A wonderful truck!

Just recently the top 2 lights (wheels) in my 4WD indicator in my dash stopped working. This site helped me fully resolve the issue…. And so thankful for the help.

So now I have another question.

I was tearing apart my instrument cluster again... as I missed one bad bulb... that's fixed now...

While there... decided to tear out the passenger side... as my heater fan bearings didn't sound so good last week when it was cold... so going to lube them up... and if it doesn't fix... I'll swap with a new fan...

plus while there decided to take a look at my rear window washer fluid line under the carpet... as I've had a wet spot under the floor mat... and thought it may be leaking.... It wasn't…

Then I shut the lights off and put a worklight inside on the floor and started looking for light in the engine compartment and under the vehicle.

And saw a hole - so thinking that the car wash and overall wet snowy weather here was allowing water into the inside.

Plus I blamed my kids more than once for spilling their soccer water bottles and causing the wet spot... Hmm apology may be needed here... lol

But I'm pretty sure I found the real issue... There is a drain that is supposed to poke out into the engine compartment... it was kinked up and pointing inside... So I’m guessing this was dripping on the floor... causing a major wet spot...

I have a funny feeling that it's been like this since 2008 when I tore apart and insulated the whole vehicle top to bottom and front to back...

Can anyone confirm what this component is? I’m thinking it may be the AC – but not sure… And secondly, should I worry that there is no grommet around that tube in the hole?

Before and after pictures follow…

Picture 2 – Unknown Component – AC?
Picture 3 – Inside Vehicle - Kinked Vent Hose
Picture 4 – Engine Compartment – Kinked Vent Hose
Picture 5 – Inside Vehicle – Pushed Vent Hose out Hole

Thanks,
Jon

That's the drain for the AC Condenser. The Toyota parts website shows 3 different grommets that go right there. 87128-08030, 90480-15033, and 90480-21007. Not sure what the difference is between them all. You are also missing a little metal drain piece that goes into that rubber drain. Part # is 88894-35080.

Thanks for the info.... Unless I hear different, I may just purchase all 4 parts - only $11.25 total for all 4 of them. Shipping is more than the parts at $12.73. That way I can figure out which I need from the 3 grommets when I have them in hand.

Just pulled out the A/C Evaporator (Condenser) Drain Hose. Posting a picture after this.

Based on my VIN #, I did find a few different part numbers than listed in the chat above. Though again I was getting different grommet #'s from different web sites... So I ordered 3.. cheap enough that I'm not worried about tossing two of them.

Part Number Part Name Price Quantity Total
88539-89113 Drain Hose $2.92 1 $2.92
90480-15033 Grommet $3.13 1 $3.13
90480-21007 Grommet $3.13 1 $3.13
87128-08030 Heater Core Grommet $2.99 1 $2.99
88894-35080 Connector $2.00 1 $2.00

A/C Evaporator (Condenser) Grommet, Drain Cooler Hose, and Connector Drain are all replaced.

I had my son inside lining me up, and me pushing the hose in from the engine compartment till it seated.

Here are the parts I used:
88539-89113 Drain Hose $2.92
90480-21007 Grommet $3.13
88894-35080 Connector $2.00

This grommet was too small:
90480-15033 Grommet $3.13

This grommet was too large:
87128-08030 Heater Core Grommet $2.99

This should solve my wet passenger carpet issue I've had for a long time.
