Someone on Facebook is recommending throttle cable/kickdown cable adjustment or transmission shift solenoid. I’ll try to get the cable adjusted and see what happens if no change then I’ll check out the solenoids, if anyone has a part number that would help tremendously..

I remember when my throttle cable was loose asf and tightening it improved the gas pedal immediately.

Another thing is to check all 4 brakes for seized calipers and pistons. A seized caliper would slow down the vehicle due to heavy drag - this happened to my Civic and caught the problem to be a seized rear caliper.

I did previously adjust my cables but Im wondering if I adjusted the kickdown incorrectly. I definitely need a new throttle cable as it’s pretty much maxed out and it’s still a bit loose.. I just installed new oem tundra calipers/rotors/pads, rebuilt them myself and they work flawlessly. Not sure about the drums though.

The "kickdown cable" only adjusts transmission hydraulic line pressure and does not change when the transmission will shift. If that cable is too tight you will have very hard shifts.

I think you will need a new throttle cable, not the throttle body unit.

Well just tried adjusting the cables around a bit and makes no difference at all. I think I’m gunna try to see if it still happens if I lock it into L vs 2 vs D.. that should really tell me wether it’s the transmission or not I’m thinking.

Edit: seems like it only happens in 2 and D not in L so I’m now suspecting the shift solenoid. Finally a potential clue!! Lol.. Do I replace all 3 or try to figure out which is the one that is causing the trouble?

If it was me, I would replace all the solenoids and install a transgo shift kit when I had the pan off. I'd also use a felpro gasket for the trans pan instead of the sealant. That stuff is a bear to get off.

Haven’t watched LTFT but my 02 sensors are practically brand new. Going to try my transmission solenoids and maybe the transgo kit.

How old is your TPS? That runs the whole show from gear selection to kicking down to fuel and ignition timing maps.

There's a write up on the 340hd2 kit: Transgo 340-hd2 install and reveiw The 340hd2 kit has 2 ways you can modify the valve body. Either truck or race shifts with truck being softer than race shifts. You might try asking the OP what he thinks of it since it's been a few years on his install.

Saw that one, there is a pretty detailed write up on Tacoma world as well. I just wish someone had a review of the sk340. I might call transgo and just see what they say about it/recommend. Probably try to message OP as well just to see what he says.

My 2001 had the same issue. Cleaned the maf and hooked it up to a multimeter and everything was within spec's. I ordered "returned" maf on amazon hooked it up to a multimeter and it behaved differently than my old one.

I put it in the car and symptoms resolved. Definitely try a new maf.

Only reason I’m hesitant on getting a new MAF is because my buddy let me borrow his and it didn’t change a thing.. Also my testing procedure of shifting into different gears really narrowed it down IMO, it wouldn’t happen at all when it was stuck in 1st gear.. I ordered 2x shift solenoids (the over drive solenoid was $$$) and the transgo kit. Really hoping this does the trick.
