I'm not following the correlation between the suspension coils and wheel size.
The difference in size between the wheels is 1", to be captain obvious.

Why did you create two threads?
Coils and wheel sizes ... Nothing to do with each other.

Really though?
So is it just that only certain models can handle 31s ?

My guess is they engineered a package that includes the taller spring, the 16¨ wheel, and the larger caliper and rotor that goes with it. This was the tallest stock 3G 4Runner made and some engineering thought probably went into the entire setup.

Your 2WD should sit ~1" lower than the same year's 4WD w/ 16" Wheels.

Moog has 4 different part #s for front springs and 2 for rears.
I looked up the specs for both rear springs. They have the same spring rate (125 lbs/inch) but the 15" application spring is 1" shorter than the 16" application.

Does anyone know if I can put springs meant for 16s on a 4runner with 15s? If I can would it lift it a little?

YOu should be able to cross reference these to moog if you want that brand. These are for the 99 and 2000 highlander edition. with 16 inch wheels 4wd v6. it was the tallest factory 3rd gen 4 runner they made but only added 1 inch....which is fine for me. I can run 265/75/16 with no issues
Front Passenger Side Springs - Blue / Yellow (48131-35400)
Front Driver Side Springs - Blue / Pink (48131 - 35350)
Both Rear Springs - Yellow / Red (48231 - 35210)

Hi everyone,
Excuse my reviving this thread, but its a subject of interest for me.
I just bought a RWD MY2001 SE, which was factory 15" rims but someone swapped to 16" Tacoma rims along the way. (On 245/75 tires) Eventually once these tires wear I'll replace with the 4Runner OE 265/70s.
Getting back to springs, I am about to do a no (intentional) lift suspension on the truck with Bilstein 4600s.
Unless I'm totally forgetting something, I'm already riding 40mm/1.5" higher than stock thanks to a 265mm vs 225mm tire, right?
And as a knock on, using the 1999 springs would mean I'll be 2.5" up?
Checking because I'm short, my wife is short, the dog hops in, and this one is a commuter- so I don't want to go taller!

Its more like 1.1" taller with the correct tires.
225/75-15 = 28.3" tall
265/70-16 = 30.6" tall
2.3" difference in total height, divided by two (you need the difference in radius, NOT diameter).
Why not just keep the stock springs? The fronts don't generally sag. Maybe just use airbags in the rear if you need more cargo capacity. Obviously, this advice is only for 4Runners that don't go offroad...

Thanks! I am planning stock now that I've thought it through. Just going to get high quality springs and shocks, this is a job I'd like to only do once ;)
Now that I'm past that, Bilstein 4600s + mystery springs at stock height is a game plan.
Need to research the good stuff that won't sag knowing OEM rears will...
