i'm pretty sure that the pistons of the 231mm are bigger than those of the 199mm. There was a post somewhere, either here or in YT, that had a comparison of the piston size. There were some complaints of having a soft or spongy brake pedal even after several bleeds and they decided to swap with a 199mm caliper and they said that the brake pedal feel improved

Good marketing strategies? No idea to be honest. Here's the thread where you can see side by side of factory brake pads between the two: TBU 231mm vs. 199mm Pad Size
