Opinions on Rear Suspension to pair w/ Fox 2.0 C/O

I know this has been discussed a lot, and I have read a lot, right now I'm in the paralysis by analysis stage.

Little background, I used to have 99 that I ran to 420k miles before catastrophic engine failure. I spent a little time in an E90 330i before someone hit me on the hwy and totaled the bimmer.

Bought a 2002 Limited 4wd w/ 160k ish miles, great condition. Need suspension, currently 19 3/4 ish hub to fender all around

Use mostly on road, but have a place in WV where off road semi frequently.

Im looking for 2"~ lift to fit my new tundra split spokes w/ 265/70/17 atw3.

I have the Fox 2.0 Coil-Over IFP for the front, up to 2" lift.

Any have this and what do you use for the rears?

I dont want to go more that 2.5" out back, will 906 w/ 4runner 5100 ride ok with the Fox 2.0 up front?

Should I get fox/icon rear shocks for the back? Dobinson 137/131?

Any opinions or advice? Thanks, I have been going in circles for weeks thinking about this.

ps. have new LBJ going in with suspension

Search button and stickies will answer a lot of questions for you. Past that find a rig you like and get the stats off of it. Then decide if you want to do the same. That is what got me to King shocks and ToyTec coils in back. I wish I had done it years sooner as it makes the ride and handling much better on and off road.

Appreciate it, I wasnt able to find fox 2.0 rear shocks made for the 3rd gen. Decided to with Icon 2.0 w/ 906 & 10mm trim packers. Hopefully it works out nicely.

I put Fox 2.0 with remote resi and CD adjuster on mine. They are for the newer Taco's and 4th gens. Work great! I had posted about it somewhere on here. Sorry just seeing this
it's tight in there, and if you run a rear sway bar they might not fit. Had a few outing so far with them and it seems to clear everywhere.

Hi @4runnerfiend , I have fox 2.0 rear shocks like you, but without the reservoirs. For the bottom bushings I rigged something up that works but isn't perfect. Do you know which bushings and bolt sleeves you used?

they are the ones that came with the Shocks. As I said they are for the 2005+ Taco and 4th gen 4runners. They have the same bottom and top shock mounts as we do. So Maybe calling Fox and trying to get a replacement set of those will fit. ..?

This is exactly what the guy at wheelers told me. They are 23.5in at full extension so I'm not sure if I need to get a bump stop extension kit. Are you running one 4runnerfiend ? I just rebuilt my king co up front and looked at my rear 5125 billy's and the drivers side is leaking oil. Already snapped a billy 5125 shock off on that side. Guy at wheelers said it was probably because that 5125 should have never been on there since I'm running LC 7.5 wraps in the rear. The 5125 I have are probably too short. I'm seriously looking at getting the 2.0 but without the reservoir.

Yes I run the DuroBumps extended bumpstops. Probably my favorite mod!

Hope the Icons hold up for you. The majority of people I know that are running Icons got really good at taking them off / putting them on for service work/ repairs. Until they decided to replace them with something else.

Longer bump stops are for a longer compressed shock length

I would extend the bumpstops just to be on the safe side. The best way would be to support the rear frame of the vehicle, remove the rear springs and shocks, jack the rear axle up to the current bumpstops, and then measure from the frame shock mount to the axle shock mount and compare it to the collapsed length of whatever shock you decide to use. Bad things happen whenever you try to compress the shock past its collapsed length because your bumpstops aren't long enough to stop the upward movement of the axle.

I went from FJ cruiser coils, to Dobinsons 137 recently. I detailed it in another thread dedicated to rear coils.

The Dobinsons have been awesome so far. Gave me the rake/height I wanted, super comfortable on the road, and flex enough for my needs.

I cant see any reason someone would be dissatisfied with them. For me, I wanted a 2" lift to stay within the 5100 specs, and because I only went 2" in the front to maintain as close to factory geometry as possible.

I'm not as well versed in this stuff as alot of these guys in the forum, but I took the rig on a recent trip through dirt roads, river crossings, and deep loose rock. It performed well and is comfortable even when weighted down. I'd guess I had 500 lbs of passengers and gear, and the rear didn't sag.
