Front crank seal

Does Toyota make a front crank seal that is thinner (so the seal doesn't ride in the old groove)? If so does anyone have a part # for it? I really don't want to use a Speedi sleeve

How bad is the grove?

I heard a trick where they tighten the inner spring inside the O-ring to make the lip tighter. How about not driving the seal all the way in? By the way, toyota seals lasts a very long time. My LC at 238K mies and got OEM seal.

+1 for driving the seal in a little less or more. Only a small amount should work.

+2 for relocating seal, don't drive it all the way home, maybe use sealant on the outer surface for good luck, the next person in there will hate you though.

Have never run into this problem with Asian cars, even when previous idiots have gone crazy using screwdrivers to remove the old one. The right amount of grease and setting it correctly has worked every time for me.

Now on American engines, such as the 350, a sleeve is almost mandatory if the dampener isn’t replaced.

When I did the timing belt on the 96 the Toyota crank seal pushed in the oil pump with my thumbs way too easy. I put a napa seal in instead. It went in tight and set properly.
