Electric Mobility Power

Now granted this must be very pricey now and not cost effective against say the cost of a pro rebuild of a 5vz And transmission.

You'd really have to want it.

Its just dreamy stuff now but think of the off-roading possibilities.

But perhaps in time things will be different/cheaper allowing for someone one here to try this:

Magna reveals electric live axle for pickup truck use

Let the discussions begin fellas!

Back when the Dodge Charger first came out I think popular mechanics or one of those magazines converted it to electric assist by putting a bank of batteries under the passenger seat and shortening the drive shaft and attaching an electric motor at the yoke of the axle. It was cool I found the motors googling my brains out as well as wheel motors that bolt in place or rear spindles on saturns etc.

I never could find the charger article to reread it.

I also hope to see this become more mainstream. I've got cars with sentimental value that I want to maintain with fresh underpinnings and power so it doesn't become less relevant. I'm no expert but I'd imagine saving existing cars and swapping out the powertrain would be even more ecofriendly than building a new EV from scratch.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this Magna one being marketed only to OEM's, not to the general public?
