I'm on belt #1 at 240,000 - feeling neglectful. High on my list.

I know timing belts are important maintenance items and all that.
But I've never seen or heard of one breaking. Like ever. I did the belt on my JDM due to age, not miles and I already had it on a stand. I plan on never changing it.

i’m at over 250k, and my belt was last replaced at 80k. I’ll probably get it done before 280k, but LBJ’s and radiator are higher on my list of to-do’s, as I think they’re both original.

It isn’t that the belt breaks, though for this engine such is a rare occurrence, but more that it stretches enough to push the tensioner to it’s limit. I try to tell people it is like having an old chain and sprockets on a bicycle. Replace them with new ones and it will feel like a new bicycle again.
If in question, change it.

I just replaced mine at around 183k miles, it had been since 2011 at 85k miles. I figured with the age and miles together it was about time. I kinda doubt it actually would have broken, but I guess it was just a peace of mind thing. I wanted to feel like it was squared away for a long time.

I come from an interference engine experience, every 100k miles or 10 years.
Given how stupidly Easy it is to do this job on the 5vz engines, and how Cheap the components are, it's just a non-issue. Takes a few hours one day to apply an ounce of prevention that keeps the engine running well, and keeps you from being stranded at an inopportune time (or suffering other damage, dealing with annoyances like oil leaks, etc..)
If you're driving more than than 25k miles a year, push it out to ~200k miles - just don't go over 10 years.

well I would say 100k.
However I know people , like many posted above go tons longer.
that said, I am looking at a 99 that is for sale, 3rd owner who has had it since 40k miles. Now has 210k. Has never done belt. Does make me a bit nervous.

Same. Mine has cracks everywhere and I have also not done the original lower ball joints.

Thanks for the info I'll probably go for some rustproofing, Tundra brake upgrade and ball joints before I do it again. Last week changed valve cover gaskets which was simple and i ordered a new radiator cap for good measure too..

I'm on belt #2. Replaced 11 years ago and has 70k on it but still looks great. You can even make out the part number on it. Probably going to keep it going for a while and just inspect it every so often.

OEM toyota belts lasts years but any AM belts... do it at 90K or inspect at 70K. I don't trust those. The gates belt I had in my Prizm showed cracks at 50K/10 years. On the other hand, I replaced the OEM belt on this car at 177K miles due to having some cracks.

This was my approach. I had mine done at 177K...the money was right at that time.

I did mine at 210,000. Belt looked like it could go for another 100k.
