Toytec Aluma Series Installed

Finally getting towards finishing my project. Went ahead and replaced everything up front along with putting on the Toytec lift. So funny how the same vehicle came be different from model to model. I had a 2000 before with a 3” Toytec lift and had zero rubbing. Never trimmed a thing. Now with this one it is rubbing like a big dawg. I trimmed the front bumper flare pieces but I’m still rubbing in the back. I have an alignment scheduled Friday so I’m hoping they can squeeze some positive caster out of it to help that end of the rubbing.

Overall though, it rides amazing with all the new bushings and parts. Still have to install my eimkeith PCK and I’m going to fix my steering wheel notch with the tack weld mod here soon. Otherwise I’m pretty satisfied. I look to have gotten better clearance. What size tire are you running?

And what's your Center Hub to Fender Flare measurement? Looks like you might be able to squeeze out a bit more lift from those fronts.

THANK YOU for posting. I am going to measure when I get home. I feel that they are sitting a bit low in the front too but didn't want to crank them too far and end up with a rear sag. Also wondering if I'll be able to crank the lift up a bit without using spring compressors.

The tires are just 285/75-16s.

What are your measurements? I have an alignement friday and am hoping to have this thing shaken down and the height set before then.

I still have a bit a adjusting to do. I want to bring the LF up a bit and the RF down a tad.

Currently:
LF 22.75 ¦ RF 23.50
LR 23.50 ¦ RR 23.50

My understanding is that one full revolution is about 1/16 of an inch of thread change which = 1/4" of height change.

Thanks for that info. You have the aluma ones as well? I'm reading differing things about whether you can adjust them on the truck or not. Some say you have to use a spring compressor. Really not trying to take all that apart again

I went ahead and made some adjustments today. First off I got my tires pressures closer to what I think I’ll want. They were tight.

I was able to adjust the coil over height with the shocks on the truck at full droop pretty easily. Some people seem to have trouble with this. WD did make a big difference. I did 4 turns and it seemed to get me sitting right. I called Toytec and asked about the max exposed threads allowed and they said 1.25”. What I didn’t realize is there is a little instep on the collar that exposes more threads. Anyone know if you should measure from the top of the collar or what?

Either way, the ride is way improved after these adjustments and the rubbing is all but gone. Little more trim tweaking and it’ll be perfect.

How is the ride after 6 months? I've been wanting to get a set of KINGs, but due to being back-ordered for 12+months, I'm considering these Toytec Alumas.

If you can be patient and wait for those...or look for a different option...

I would.

The setup is mediocre at best. It looks pretty but the ride is nothing special and as the video explains..the rear shocks SUCK. The ride of the coilovers is extremely stiff, IMO. I felt the "ultimate" was a better ride so maybe look into those at least, if you're going to go Toytec.

Hope that helps some. I have lots of experience on this install so any questions you may have..feel free.

Ah man, that's too bad. I'll be sticking with my Land Cruiser rear shocks, but I actually just ordered the coilovers, BUT WITH THE 600lb SPRING!!! LOL

If the 550lb felt stiff for you, I'm thinking the 600lb will be way too rough.

Do you think you will keep your coilovers or swap to another set up soon? 12 months is too long for me to wait for the Kings...

Well, as crappy as the rear shocks were man, I'm kind of thinking the same applies to the shocks/struts they are using in conjuction with the springs for the coilovers. They may be valved crappy, or too stiff or something. It may not all come strictly down to the spring rate of the spring. A lot of people have used those 600 lb springs over the years with positive results so don't write em off just yet! I hope they work for you man.

P.S...and yeah I couldn't wait 12 months either haha, as much as I dream of having those Kings. I think I'll keep rolling my setup for now just because I don't want to tear it all back apart. I think if I were to do anything I'd just put some Bilstein 5100s up front to match the rear. Those babies really do ride smooth.

Adjustment

Hey, Im going from a older set of Toytec coilovers with dbl lock ring to these Aluma single ring ones.

When you adjusted the preload on yours, did you slightly loosen the allen key bolt?

Hey! I forget how much they said to loosen it but its not much. Basically just loosen it only enough to get the ring to turn..too much and the spring can push the clamp ring up the threads.

What I did was cleaned the crap out of them, just wiped them down really good. Then I sprayed them with WD-40. The tool they give you is okay, but the way I seemed to get it to work the best was the tool as well as a tapered punch. I could use the punch to get the ring fully around when the tool wouldn't fit or give me what I needed.

Whatever you do, don't over-loosen that allen bolt and don't try to do it if they are dirty at all.
