What brand upper balljoint to get? Press tool?

I lost a UBJ a few months back in Big Bend, was towed to autozone and got whatever BJ they had to get me back home. I can't for the life of me remember the brand or how I put it on working basically on the side of the road with a 2 jaw remover tool.

Now I'm takling the other side UBJ with a Moog that I can't seem to get on. Ordered a press tool from Amazon thats slightly too big to get this started.

What brand balljoints should I get from autozone/oreillys that I can get this done with the same side-of-the-road tools I had/have? I'm replacing both before I got on a roadtrip.

To be honest why not go oem? I just picked up a set from Timmy the toolman Toyota’s link on his YouTube video. Not expensive at all.

A stealership is no where near me. Thats why I asked for brands, aka alternatives. Not everyone is has a dealership in reach. What are the toyota quality brands? Its not ac Delco or Motorcraft. Hell not even moog. Also don't have time to wait for delivery.

I got every single press set loaner and found a combo of the big Advance Auto Master C-clamp set and the O'Reilly 4WD adapter set worked, and I still had to swap half way through because the O'reilly one was too shallow but it allowed the screw down far enough to fot the one that came with it. The problem is you cant use those press clamps with the screw the right way around because the knuckle spindle arm or whatever its called gets in the way. I wasnt able to try the Autozone master adaper set becaused none of them had it. It might work with their clamp.

I think this one may work too: https://www.autozone.com/loan-a-tool...ler/209523_0_0

Yes I am having that issue right now installing mine. The rental tool at oreillys is too big and hits the spindle. However since I am running the JBA off-road UCA arms which has the ball joint bolted on the control arm, I just need to to install the female end. I think I am going to try using a large socket and a through bolt and tightening it up to see if I can get it to seat. Just ran out of patience using that tool this weekend.

Installing was massively easier. I did SPC arms and the knuckle part was shaped to fit directly in that type of ball joint c-clamp press. Removing the UBJ would be much easier if you cut the stud off, which I didnt do. It's like trying to play tetris eith thede adapters otherwise. The O'Reilly obe I only used as a receiver cup for removal. The large Advance Auto kit had the right size adapter for installing.

The Toyota quality brand is Toyota. I would just use Moog if youre not going to wait for Toyota, should be fine. There's not much stress on the upper joint compared to lower.

Order OEM UBJ on-line Nothing compares to the factory ball joints, this is well known and proven.

I know it wont help much in your situation, but when I did mine I did the upper bushings too, so I took the entire arm off and did it all on a press.

as others have said, the upper is not under stress like the lower and most major brands are fine, but I used all toyota. Years back a friend rebuilt his entire front end with moog, except the lower ball joints...and it lasted a few years b4 he sold it for a tundra.

I remeber years back, seeing a guy on youtube do the uppper ball joints using just mostly simple tools.....its not one of timmys videos....might have been on a taco, dont remember, but same set up as a 4runner
