Hilux 167 snorkel for 3rd gens

Hey guys, a few guys have posted up about this in another thread, along with their pictures, but I found out that there was much more involved with the install, so I thought I would try to make one that had all of the steps. Theirs were great write ups, but I took a few more pictures of the process and though I'd post up. This snorkel is great quality, fits pretty damn good, and is a hell of a price.
This is definitely open to suggestions/modifications if those who have installed it feel the need to! Thanks for the guys who I messaged with while installing mine

Here's the amazon link:
Amazon.com: Snorkel Air Ram Intake Kit For Toyota 167 Series Hilux SR5 STH167RA: Automotive

I got mine off ebay and there are several sellers on there as well, but amazon always seems to have them at a constant price.

In the box you'll receive:
snorkel
snorkel head
3 hose clamps (one black, 2 silver)
locking nuts
bolts
bracket to connect it by the windshield
3 hex bolts for the windshield bracket
a set of 5 pins (no idea what they are for, I never used them)
template (will need modification, the big hole works but the 5 smaller ones do not)

what you'll need:
3 5/8 hole saw
5/16 drill bit (start with this one, then go larger if necessary)
black caulk (sealing around the small gaps)
Door edge guard (any weatherstripping will work, I found this to work easier because it was wedge shaped)
three 8x1/2 self tapping screws (windshield bracket)
locktite
patience, patience, and more patience
bravery to realize you're cutting a big ass hole into your fender
some one with small hands would also help

I'll list the steps I went in, some have pictures, some do not.

1) we started with the rubber L shaped house being connected to the air box. Many people have posted that this process was a huge pain, but it went quite simple for us. Having two people makes it much easier. Heat the tube up over a small flame to stretch it out. Start to put it on your factory airbox and use a flat head screwdriver to get it over it. Once on, use a pair of vice grips to stretch the tubing over your air box outlet. This rubber is very strong and will not rip. Place the air box back in with the house and house clamp connected. Wait until after install is completed to tighten the 3 bolts back on, just incase adjusting is needed.

2) attach the template to your fender, lining it up a the door end of the fender, holding it very flat and taught, making sure it is taped as smoothly as possible

3) after taping, begin to cut your hole, slowly. After the hole is cut, you'll want to set the snorkel in, line it up on the windshield mount, and then trace around its position. You'll use this tracing to modify the template for your own holes.

4) once you cut the hole you will find some factory tubing between the fender and the engine bay frame. rip that tubing out.

5) to make the template, you'll take it with the big hole already cut out and tape it to the back of your snorkel. Then you'll feel under the paper and punch out the 5 holes from the snorkel. While you're going this step, you can also attach the bolts into the snorkel. use a hex bit to tighten them and make sure to use locktite.

6) after the template it make, retape it back onto your fender and drill your holes. Give a quick punch in each hole to make sure your bit doesn't walk all over

7) once the holes are drawn, line it all up, make modifications of necessary and put the sucker in!

8) Take the wheel off for easier access. You'll have to pull down that fender liner to access the bolts. This is a bit of a pain and having someone with small hands will make it much easier

9) keep the fender lining peeled back and slide the L shaped house onto the snorkel. Attach the hose clamp they supplied. Its a huge pain to tighten and will not fully tighten. I suggest getting some gorilla tape and going around the connection just to be safe. Use the same flathead/vicegrip process when joining the tube and snorkel.

10)once all the bolts are tightened the gaps will fill in and all the pain work is finished.

11) attach the head of the snorkel using the black hose clamps. Before you put the head on, cut a dryer sheet and place it over the snorkel. This will prevent bugs and what not from going down the snorkel, while still allowing for airflow.

after that step you're finished!

I agree with Doc...great write up!

This really frustrates me...these guys can make this snorkel kit and sale it for a profit at $170 with free shipping! Then ARB makes a very similar snorkel...yet they sell theirs for over $400 plus shipping! Come on...why does ARB have to charge so much for their products?? I know it's quality stuff...but damn!!

Indeed a great writeup. Shows everything needed to pull thus mod off...and it doesn't cost 400 bucks.

Yeah I just bought mine for 130 on eBay. I was hesitant on buying one because I wanted to get ditch lights but it seems like I should be able to clear thin with this snorkel.

The bracket barely contacts the snorkel. I'm not too worried about vibrations since they are mounted very close and both to the body of the truck.

Sweet. Do you have it moved over like that because the light hits the tube?

I see. So I should be able to fit then on there pretty comfortably.
