Erratic Blower Fan Switch

Hi

I have a 2000 4 Runner, and the blower fan switch is acting erratic when I turn the knob (I have the climate controls a digital readout, and a knob that turns to adjust blower fan speed).

When I turn the fan speed knob to the right to increase the fan speed, sometimes the fan speed increases and sometimes it decreases, sometimes it doesn't move at all. It seems erratic. On "Auto" the fan speed works fine as expected.

I searched for this issue, and found numerous posts about the blower fan only working at certain speeds which is related to the blower resistor going bad, but that's not what I am experiencing and I don't think my issue is related to the resistor (maybe I'm wrong). I suspect the fan switch knob is dirty/corroded or simply going bad.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Lee

Ya very common issue, there is a few people on ebay that can fix it and a few write-ups that I'm not sure I'd attempt, I sent a friends out to a local Automotive electronic tech, he seemed to understand the problem over the phone, and no problems since.

Try searching "3rd gen 4runner digital climate control issues"

@Malcolm99 , Thanks for the quick reply. I feel like an idiot and apparently was searching for the wrong keywords; I don't know how I missed it... THANKS.

Based on the info found on this thread: Auto Climate Control Repair Services
I will likely send it to John Hadfield (tr4.org member, jdaz123 on ebay) for repair via his ebay repair listings (per some other threads, if you mention "sicmods" and provide your t4r.org user name he offers 10% discount (not sure if he is still doing this or not)). Please note that this isn't a pitch for his repair service, I have no connections to him (other than I plan on having him fix mine), and there are certainly other repair services available once you search for the right keywords.

Thanks again.

Ya I live up in Canada and see your in Tennessee(where my family immigrated to in 1840), and for me sending it even just across the boarder and hoping it makes it back wasn't an option since these things have become unattainable or very expensive even broken. From what I understand its a pretty easy fix depending on issue if you can find a local Electronic tech that is familiar with the issue. Cold made my buddies really act up, so I described the issues I was having and the tech even put it in the freezer and performed a few other tests to insure it was good to go.
