Ahhh I see that now. Thank you! I'm guessing with added weight in the back the normal valving would probably be more appropriate.

If I'm understanding the logic correctly, the 4th/5th gen 4runner rear shocks advertised as their "comfort valved",IMS59-50705, would be ideal for 4runners (3rd gens) using a 3"+ rear spring without constant rear weight or armor & IMS59-50701 are for medium to heavy constant rear load.

not an answer, just added info, the 210V has a spring rate of 160/239 lb/inch and a free height of 18.70"/19.09".

DISCLAIMER: The following is purely a guesstimate based on gut feeling and sloppy napkin math. Use at your own risk!
I think comparing curb weights would probably be the best way to determine which one to go with. All curb weights listed below are from google.
2000 4Runner curb weight 3440-3975
2002 4Runner curb weight 3600-3975
2008 4Runner curb weight 4045-4530
2015 4Runner curb weight 4400-4805
Typically a vehicle has more weight on the front axle vs the rear axle when unloaded. Let's guestimate 55 front/45 rear.
So it looks like a difference of 400-600ish lbs between 3rd and 4th gen 4Runner's. About 180-270 lbs rear axle difference.
Around 800 lb difference between 3rd and 5th gen 4Runner's. About 360 lbs rear axle weight difference.
Based on those guesstimations and napkin math I would think larger wheels and tires (unsprung weight still plays into shock performance) and a steel rear bumper would probably be the limit for the comfort valved shocks. I think either would work well with the 210V springs. If you're planning on doing some high speed offroading then I have no clue whoch would be a better option.

So I ordered some of the ims shocks. But of course right after I order them and received them now I see that it looks like some of you guys are considering using the 4th gen version? I was a little disappointed that the version for the third gen is pretty short in terms of travel.

Curious if I should hold off on installing them and try to swap to the others? Or would it really matter at all...

What rear springs are you using? 4th gen rear shock travel would need FJ80 front springs or OME861 or similar

Currently I'm running 890s. I've actually ran stock Land cruiser shocks previously and there was no looseness on the coils at Max flex. While not totally scientific, I think it really only becomes a problem when you go beyond like nine and a half inches of travel, maybe... My only complaint with the IMS shock, the model specifically for 3rd gens, is that it's travel it's just barely longer than stock which seems a little silly... Although I was willing to try it just because I'm so sick of how kings ride.

I mean maybe it doesn't matter... I was basically going for what some of the guys called the mid travel setup. And that's basically what I'm rocking now, it just rides like crap lol

Looseness when flexing is a problem, but the bigger problem is bottoming out on the shock travel because you don’t have your bump stops long enough. I would flex it out and take some measurements on the tucked side to make sure you don’t need to extend your bump stops. Also take some measurements at ride height to determine how much up travel vs down travel you have. You ideally want to be close to midway between the two.

Oh yeah I'm running the 3" duro bumps. Originally had the 5" but it was way too long...

But yeah the 890s were never loose with the LC shocks or my kings. Do we have the exact measurements for the 4th gen ones? I'll have to also talk to dobinson to see if they could valve that other shock to be plush for a 3rd gen. Could be perfect

what happened to the King shocks? last time i read about them was you were planning to have them revalved.

KDSS might limit the length of the rear shock you can use, not sure at this time. The only way to know is to get one and test it. Should not be a big deal as the LC200 has good lift options with KDSS.

Dunno if the 120 platform suspension components will work on the new platform.

Here in the 3rd gen section (96-02) none of us have KDSS. I’m willing to bet some of us don’t even have working ABS right now lol

Oh sorry, I thought I posted about that but maybe I didn't... Yeah so I sent them up to king, I explained to them exactly what they felt like and what I was looking for. I got them back and honestly to me it feels like there's maybe a 5 to 10% difference. Pretty much didn't help at all. And of course you know you only get one freebie...

Seeing as how the dobinsons are half the price just about half the price, to me if they end up writing better that's completely worth it even if maybe say technically the Kings can handle more... I'll probably never push them to the max anyway.

Extended length -- 23.23"
Compressed length -- 13.98" "

Okay so that would actually be just about as much shock travel as the Land cruiser shocks I think. Basically the best possible. I'll have to reach out to dobinsons to see if they might be willing to do an exchange and also if they might be willing to build that 705 with Val entine to give it a plus ride

If they will be willing to do that, I think that would be the perfect dobinsons shock for 3rd gens.
