Rear hatch is stuck closed

Guys

Looks like a piece of metal got wedge in the rear hatch latching mechanism and I can't get the hatch to open. When I removed the inside panel and was looking around I just happened to notice this piece of metal wedge between bottom weather stripping and underside of door. My kids were helping my wife move her classroom stuff so could explain where this piece came from.

Appreciate any suggestions u might have in opening door. I did check cable and lever mechanism on latch is moving just wont release door.

Been prying and metal strip to dislodge it but no luck.

Thanks

Mike M

Is it fully latched or just jammed with the metal in the wedge. If just jammed you may be able to evenly press on the inside with some pressure to get it open. If locked, you going to have to have the latched jammed with something on the open position. Then put pressure from the inside to get it open.

Fully shut and unlock. I think the latching mechanism is bound up by this piece which in turn is not fully releasing

Got it fixed. It was one of those heavy duty paper clips that u squeeze. I just keep hitting the metal part with screw driver and hammer and it finally dislodged
