A basic wiring question about the 2002 4unner.

My friend is having electrical troubles with her 2002 4runner. I have not seen it myself first hand. She said she had a wire burn up couple months ago. Now she’s having trouble with her transfer case actuator and the lights on her dash and her bright lights.I’m going to look at it tomorrow, but I just wanted to check in here to make sure there’s not something substantially different about the 2002 from other earlier 3rd gens that I have worked on. What I mean is, they didn’t introduce some kind of CAN computerized network wiring by then. Did they?

Yeah no fancy canbus on those (doesn't tell you bulb burned out).

My '01 will 'tell' you the running lights are all out by also turning off all dash lights but that is about it.

Get the test probe ready...

She had "a wire burn up" and didn't do anything about it? Hmmm. The first thing that comes to mind is a botched (improperly fused) aftermarket accessory installation. If that was the case, you're in for some fun. (Been there, done that.) Have fun and good luck!

Yes I agree sounds like aftermarket accessories baking. Mostly when wires short or melt fuses blow. Unless someone ran some homemade circuits and used to big of fuses.

I also think we need alot more information then a wire melting to pinpoint a cause.
