In the words of The Big Lebowski, my thinking on this case has become very uptight.

You guys are right - I need to start with the top level stuff first. I’d kind of come to the same conclusion in a roundabout way, and did the plugs today. Waiting on wires and coils to arrive from RockAuto and then we’ll see how it goes.

I do think I’ll change the injectors when I eventually tackle the valve cover gasket leak — I just don’t necessarily need to do all that right now, if the plug job gets the misfire.

I’m wondering if that’s a good value or if I should steer clear. Thanks -
U can get a kit and reman them urself. The remanned ones do work fine and aren't usually hundreds of dollars

So far so good. I replaced the plugs, wires, coils and O2 sensors, and cleaned the MAF sensor. Check engine lights are now off and it’s running well - no more misfires (though I’ve only driven 30 miles so far)

I still need to deal with the leaky VC gaskets sometime soon.

I’m a little concerned about the plug install b/c I didn’t have a torque wrench. I tried to not make them too tight but what are the risks if I got that wrong? I did them finger tight plus 1/4 turn with the socket and they felt quite tight to me at that point.

Also, a big shout-out to TheDurk in this thread:

02 sensor replacement???

I couldn’t have done the front/upstream O2 sensor (actually an Air/fuel Ratio sensor in my case) without this info. He’s exactly right - you pass the sensor over so you can more easily access the electrical plug. It’s a bit of a pain but do-able. Thanks TheDurk!

- I’m posting this to help future searchers.

I'm glad you got it figured out! As for spark plug torque, I think you'll be fine where they are at. You might be a little high, but I don't think you're at risk of thread damage or cracking the head.

Ok cool - so they’re meant to be fairly snug

Critical flaw in original injectors?

I've been doing a lot of injector research lately, and just ordered 6 of the Motorwest injectors. I found the info below on their site....apparently even a new or rebuilt "brown" injector can have this design flaw? Just FYI to anyone struggling with misfires/ thinking about replacing/ rebuilding injectors....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
After years of research and development, we are discontinuing this product and introducing and more reliable and cost effective Denso injector replacement. The original 23250-62040 (brown) injectors have an internal solenoid defect that fails over time, with high mileage engines being the most affected by this.

The symptoms begin as an intermittent random misfire. The issue then becomes ongoing when the vehicle reaches normal operating temperature. Finally the internal injector solenoid dies and the misfire becomes permanent.

The great news is we now offer a solution to solve the issue permanently. We are so confident in the replacement injector’s reliability that we are offering Lifetime Warranty on every unit sold!

The Denso replacements can be found by clicking here, or searching our store for part number HP831.

Interesting, says they're not compatible with superchargers. I wonder why/how that could be(?)

Bumping this. Recently I replaced spark plugs and the proof is in the pudding. All spark plugs looked identical, meaning the injectors were all flowing even.
