these are getting harder to resist by the minute

This one is a hella nice spec, comes with both front and rear lockers and factory winch. I want to jump on a flight to TX and go get it.

1990 1990 Land Cruiser PRADO | eBay

edit: the tag also seems to match the spec so I would guess this one has a good chance of being what it seems.

jdm-expo.com

I have seen a couple of horror stories of people getting a truck with a locker switch that just fills a standard hole in the dash but no real lockers, a switch to nowhere if you will.

I’m with you, that is indeed sweet looking. How good is eBay’s money back guarantee?

Stupid people get scammed in stupid ways. If they had half a clue what they were buying they would look at the differential and clearly see no e-locker
Also, $30K for a 30 year old Prado, that's "hard to resist"? Sheesh. I'm all for imported 4x4s but come on now.
Toyota diesels do have a great whistle to them though...

X2, it’s cool but for 30k you could do a lot.. I mean you could get a dual locked fzj80 + have like 15k to spend in mods.. Dont get me wrong though I do like it..

I said I want to do it, not that I'm going to do it... right now. I'm looking for truck in this vintage with these types of specs but I'm not quite ready. I think I'm holding out for LJ78 from Europe that is left had drive, but those are pretty rare. I'm only aware of a couple in the entire US right now, and yea they go for upwards of 30K mostly in good working order without lockers. bring a trailer prices because 70 series in the US are pretty rare trucks.

if this is a legit JDM with lockers spec truck?

I did message the seller and the underside of the truck is rust free and looks original to me. however no good shots to prove it has lockers... I don't see anything other than a breather and parking break cable.

if somebody dropped a locker body onto a different frame? or swapped body plates? I would have to test it before I would plunk down my cash.

also this is ebay so they are asking top dollar. I will not be surprised if it sells, might take a bit but if the right buyer comes along, gone.

has been said many times before... it's worth what somebody will pay for it.

I'm with you on the logic and I love 80 series but they are just so big and tank like, it's why I love the 3rd gens. I just wish they came with solid axles, links, coils and lockers. hey wait what if I got a prado and body swapped it... hmmm...

Well I don't know about you but 80 series aren't much better where I'm at That said these are one of, if not my favorite looking car, so in the end I probably would be guilty of overpaying myself. Still, something tells me importing one yourself might even be cheaper than this

I haven’t looked at their prices for a while but when I was shopping for my t4r I almost got one in super nice condition with bumpers/sliders dual factory lockers for around 13-14k. One of the doors was super dented which is why I didn’t go for it. I do like it a lot and imports are definitely sweet, just hard for me to justify for myself I guess lol.

I agree with you 100% on the size of our 4runners (partially why I didn’t get an 80). You could get a 4wu front + rear link kits/coil overs/mounts etc + brand new Ford 9” or toyota fabricated housings w/ lockers and probably be at a little less than 30k lol.

I have yet to see anybody do a really high quality linked + coil swap.

yes I know leaf spring swaps. but god I don't want 1950's ride quality.

I would not be surprised once it's all said and done your going to need to re-gear + lockers + 2x housings and all the link joints and hardware, new brakes, new exhaust, new drive shafts, new coils, new steering system.

so saying <30$ yea if you do all the fab work yourself but in todays world your going to easily spend 20K+ or more to do a nice linked based axle swap with lockers. once you sit down with excel and start to add up all the little stuff it hurts.

I agree about the leafs. I’ve seen a few DIYers pull it off pretty good on IG (with 4wu kits). Mostly 1st gen Tacoma’s but still that’s close enough lol.. But yea it will 100% be over 20k for that.
