What to do with my old steering rack?

So I replaced my leaking steering rack and I'm not sure what to do with my old one. I don't want to just chuck it in the landfill but I can't seem to find anyone that wants it. Does anyone know of rebuild services that could use it as a core? I don't want any money for it. I already called my local dealer and they said they can't take it.

A junkyard would probably take it but charge a little for doing so maybe. As of like 2019 here in WA the dump will refuse a myriad of car parts and you HAVE to take them to a licensed junkyard/recycler, purely because they were polluting up the landfills so much what with all the nasty fluids they leak. Drop box locations even refuse big but cleaned items like bumpers and frames because they would take up so much space in the dumpsters, gotta go to a junkyard for them too even though it's just steel and plastic.

I applaud your effort in trying to find someone to rebuild it, but I would consider it scrap and drop it off at a metal scrapper in your city. They shouldn't charge you to give it to them (at least that's how it is in KS).

My local AutoZone took mine. I just called first to ask if they recycle parts. I have a feeling they just tossed it in their dumpster though

Autozone was a no go. Found a parts recycling yard close by so I'm going to try them.
