That's what I was talking about, I don't see it adding up when you look at all the steel going on vs what's been removed. It's just the bumper, lights/brackets and cross member right? I know some OEM bumpers were reinforced but those only tack on another 20ish pounds I thought

i think the weight includes the weight of the reinforcement bar & attachments that connect to the horns of the ladder frame

Every so often someone talks about how the front bumper is 100-something pounds and I dont have a damn clue where this comes from

All I can tell you good scales don't lie vs I don't see it adding up.
I can't weigh it again sold fatlip shortly after taking it off.
Didn't weigh each piece set bumper on scale put rest of junk in bumper.

Something to check before paint, the lower tubes topside where they tie into center section is hard to get at welding
a side didn't get fully welded. Rain/water will get in the tube wind from driving will force water out leave you
rust colored water trails on bumper and frame until water evaporates.
Didn't catch this till after paint clear silicone to the rescue, can't see it lasts till it doesn't.
Also this may not happen on all bumpers.

I will definitely take a look at mine when I get it. Good tip!

I ordered my bumper in April and have been trying to see what winch they recomend as I would prefer not to cut the grill unless I have to. But no return emails or phone calls. So any info would be great. I ordered the plated bumper.
Thanks,

Mine was March 1, so let’s see who gets theirs first
I will be installing a winch as well, but not right away. I will finalize which one I go with once I get the bumper installed. I will let you know anything I hear from AO as soon as I do.

I’m in the process of installing an X2O 10k winch on my AOR tube bumper. It appears I will be doing some minor trimming on the grill.

When I was waiting for mine I emailed about what winches fit and there was a pretty small list of like 4-5 that fit (didn’t save the email). I ended up going with the smittybilt 9.5k synthetic. First out of laziness I mounted the control box on top of the winch and did some super minor trimming on the grill. Then I relocated the control box into the passenger wing of the bumper and wouldn’t of had to trim the grill at all. One thing to note if you mount the control box on top is you will most likely have to remove the control box to remove your grill which is a PITA.

Fwiw OP the XRC Gen 3 is slightly smaller than the X20 and nominally lighter

Thank you both as that’s useful info to know! I was potentially considering these:
WARN 103255 VR EVO 12-S
Smittybilt X2O COMP
Will see if I do go with them or not. I don’t foresee the need to remove the grill once this is all done since I will replace the radiator too, but might be better if I mount the control box as mentioned.

If you're taking votes I'd go for Warn over SB any day of the week. They're spendy but they're much better quality and have outstanding customer service
Fwiw I also have my box in my passenger wing, seems pretty common. I believe it technically would fit in either wing if your wiring lets you

I have always been partial to Warn since I was much younger, but wanted to keep a second option open in case. I will probably go with the Warn though.
Good to know that. I will see where I can mount it!

I used a SB XRC8 for 10 yrs never a problem worked the many times I used it got totaled when 96Red did in 18.
Bought SB 9.5 Syn for the 01 in 18 been working fine with couple dozen pulls on it so far. Don't need it alot so I went cheaper.
With AOR Plate cutting the grille depends on what year Runner you have. Pre 99 no trimming needed, 99-02 needs it.
Swapped a 96-98 grill onto 01, 2-2 1/4" difference in the two. Just saying.

Have had an XRC8 on our CJ for 10-20 years now, that thing will not die What's sad is that XRC8 is infinitely better quality than my new XRC G3, but I guess that's just the way the world works. Most manufacturers see no reason or benefit to build something that'll last anymore.
What do you mean by "SB 9.5k synth" - what winch do you have now? Those are just the specs
