3Bears scored a Highlander

Well some of you are aware of my troubles over the past few months and have been supportive on the forum and in P.M's. Thanks so much guys and gals, totaled my beloved 2000 in October, wife died in Novemeber ( cancer) and got a 2001 4runner in Deccember that has been a rusty handful
Well today I scored big.....drove home a 2000 Imperial Jade Mica Highlander with aside from a lot of the highlander options ( tall springs etc) it has the SX package ( 4:30 gears and factory rear locker ). The main negative....salvage title from 8 years ago...was t-boned driver side, both doors , running board, splice in new rocker panel and the pillar that goes up between doors. It was a really clean job. Frame is straight....I looked.......and almost no rust Owner had no explanation why dirvers door is different color. Small dent on hood
Has 221k, Records since 114k . Timing belt, waterpump, thermo and belts at 121k. VC gaskets and fuel injectors at 147k. Maf replaced at195k, Timing belt again 210k. Tranny filter and diff fluids changed at 215k. Does not have rear wind deflector...Surprised on that, no holes or anything so must not have had.
Got it from a guy in Airforce that is transfering in a week. I was first person to contact him, but 3rd to look and make an offer that was acceptable...
and the vin ends 777

The negatives....or things that need attention,( not in order)
1) 4wd light does not come on ( was told at times it flickers), but 4wd does engage in both ranges, but up here you go into 4wd in October and it might be late April b4 you turn it off, so maybe a bulb ( from constant on) or the light switch on front diff
( locker works, and it's light comes on)
2) brakes are spongy/soft but stop real well and panic stops well and no vibration. I yanked emergency brake 20+ times, that helped some.
3) radiator turning brown...so its gonna go soon ( order tonight with both hoses)
4) no records on LBJ's ...(order tonight, just put my OEM's on the 2001)
5) one fog light does not light up
5) pass mirror does not respond.
6) pass side side light broken ( cracked)
7) the drivers window switch is backwarads....mean...pull up to go down, push down to go up
8) autostart has a problem...only need in winter...but if you remote start and then unlock doors with fob, sets off alarm, but if you dont use the autostart and use the fob to unlock doors, all is good.

tomrrow, time permitting, ( helping neighbor build a barn) pull wheels and check brake pads and shoes...also check for hydrallic leaks and if a wheel bearing seal is leaking and just not showing on backing plates yet. roll over my 5 star and Ko2"s and see if I like them better....
over the next few days...touch up hood and install bug delflector and window visors ( ordered for my 2001 and not installed). Install my spiker hood supports that I never got around to on my 2000. Install my strong lifts, ordered for 2000, never installed ( this one needs).
Put my 2001 up for sale

and thanks all for all the helpful anwers ( and support) over the past few months while I was looking for a 4runner and trying to figure out all the differences
thanks

Mine's a '99 with a 5spd, locker, no-running boards (the rare front mudflaps, lol).

Enjoy!

Driver's door was probably replaced, but that doesn't have to be a problem. Swap the wires to the window motor and that should fix the up/down problem.

Looks like the rest is fixable too, especially if minimal rust.

You've been through a lot in the last year, I'm really sorry about the loss of your wife.

Congrats on scoring the truck, looks like a great starting point! If you ever decide to outfit it with a set of hood struts (for all your upcoming projects ), please PM me, I'll make you a deal you can't refuse

Good looking IJM highlander. Congrats. I think the 5 stars would complement the truck quite well. If the passenger side mirror is actually bad and not the wiring, reach out to me. I can get a color matched one for you from the local yards. Front roof rack main loading bar looks like it's on backwards. No big deal, just a matter of turning it around.

Glad you find a Highlander.. :-) It was 6 months to a year before i realized my 01 sport was an 01 Sport and not a highlander. ;-) At least now you can fix it up the way you want it and have yourself a decent rig.. :-)

yep I rolled the 5 stars next to it, and they will go on in the next few days. Yep I noticed the front bar ws backwards....but they are gonna come off soon anyway and I will put my plates in so I can put my full rack up there. I might need to chase down mirror and I will get in touch. whats on now is black, so must have been changed out at some time. Would need the heated ones, esp for up here.
