Where is the fuel filter on a 3rz-fe 4runner?

I've seen videos on people changing the fuel filter on their 3rd gens, they are all located under a (usually missing) dust cover close to one of the cross members on the driver side.

I checked mine and there isn't anything. The 3rz-fe 4runners are almost identical to 1st gen Tacomas on anything relating to the engine, and I've read that the 1st gen Tacos have their filters located in the fuel tank.

Anyone know if this is true?

It’s on the drivers side of the engine block below the intake manifold.

If you pull the alternator it is quite easy to get to. That’s how I did mine.

Just saw a video on it, still an awful design choice by Toyota. Don't know why they felt the need to relocate it from the ideal spot. Do they make relocation kits for this filter?

Don’t think so. Put in an OEM one and you’ll probably never need to touch it again.

Stick around and you will routinely see the v6 guys fighting with rusted filters, broken flare nuts and rusted lines. Under the cab is pretty exposed to the elements.

You’ll begin to appreciate the 3rz design. You have banjo bolts on both ends which are easy to deal with and the filter will never be rusty in there. Once you get the system down it’s really easy to change. And like JZiggy said, you won’t need to do it often.
