the play and squeaking could be related or they could be separate.

there is an entire linkage going all the way from the steering wheel to the tie rods.

A power steering pump supplies fluid at pressure so that could be low? pump can starve and squeak-ish.

A belt being driven off the crank pully for the power steering pump? belt can squeak.

there are bushing that help absorb vibrations and road bumps that hold the rack onto the frame, those could be worn out or lose?

your tie rods have joints both inner and outer those could be worn?

your tie rods are connected with a ball joint to the steering knuckle, those could also be worn?

the rack has a roller guide that can become lose or wear out.

the steering wheel has a shaft with ujoints in 2 locations that can become worn.

So before I would just throw a new rack at the truck I would get it up in the air and do some pushing and pulling on things or even have somebody turn the wheel and watch and listen to see if I could get a better idea about the source of the sound.

My play was a bad inner tierod.

My squeak was a dry lower balljoint.

I cant thank you enough for your detailed reply. I ruled out the tie rods and the steering pump is only a couple years old, the belts are good. I just need to find a lift to check the rest.
