Since you’re asking for opinions: to me personally that sounds like LX wins by a little bit.

It's not your wife's car, so all that matters is what makes you happy. A 45k mile t4r will be worth $20k in a few years!

Nothing against the wife, but if you could afford to keep the T4R I'd personally keep it.

Talking

I have a 99 T4R and my wife drives a 17 gx460. We take the 460 about 75% of the time for family outings. I say keep the 4runner, unless you need money now then sell it (market is crazy as others have mentioned). Keeping the 4runner gives a little diversity to your fleet, you like it more, and you can use your wifes issues with it to mod it out and make it "safer". She doesn't like the ride quality? Tell her it needs new suspension.

Random idea: sell both, you take the gx, and buy something different for your wife? I've put a lot of time and energy into my own T4R but I plan on taking over my wife's gx once she's tired of it, or might just weld on sliders the next time she's out of town.

She loves that GX so much that if it stays in the family, she’s driving it. And I can’t afford two payments like that and can’t put her and my daughter in some old beater. She deserves the newer/safer of our cars.

Your wife is correct. Sell the T4R.The ride is terrible. It's under powered
Interior is cramped and not that well put together. However, the mechanicals are sound and every second video on YT proclaims it's greatness, so demand (for now) is high.

Even with my T4R bias, given your situation, I'd be tempted to cash out on the T4R craze. As a casual commuter, the LX will be more comfortable with comparable fuel economy. And with such low miles on the T4R, I'm sure you could get some good money for it.

... or do the hide-in-the-shed thing and keep both.

Keep the T4r!

Buy LEATHER seat covers and reupholster those, adjust the lumbar support and BOOM! Then add an Android Auto tablet in the dash for your center and Nav. Tint the crap out of the windows. I'm ripping the entire interior out of my 02 doing exactly the same thing

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, that's not a Lexus. Surely looks like a Land Cruiser to me.
