Bad news... That clip is part of the "Garnish" -- the whole molded license frame piece.

Mine was broken when I got the car, and I managed to fix it with time, patience, super glue plus baking soda, and a zip tie.

so it's part of the plastic itself and not the keyhole? it attached to the keyhole on mine, i thought it was just a clip i could replace

There are a bunch of threads that discuss it, with pics--usually in the context of a missing lock cylinder on the back hatch--when that clip breaks, the cylinder falls into the hatch.

I can post pics later, but if you search using "lock missing" you'll find bunches of threads now.

My bad--that clip is attached to the wiring for the lock. So the part number would be part of the lock assembly, not the Garnish. You dodged a bullet!

So is the lock cylinder still attached to the license plate frame (garnish)?

i'll probably run down to pick n pull tomorrow to find one there.

Best bet to find it would be to find a lock cylinder assembly at a salvage yard or lkq and use the parts on your existing cylinder. if not you'll have to get a new one and get a lock smith to re key it for your existing key.

Good plan. But if you find a matching vehicle and the whole garnish is still avail, take the whole thing, for when the other clip fails, lol... Good luck.

Did the clip break because of brittle plastic? Expected, given the age of our rigs.
Even if you can't source a replacement pig tail connection, you tail gate still can be secured via key (providing your license plate garnish is still good). The only inconvenience will be is the fob may not work. And locking and unlocking via key will only work.
