Thoughts on this rust? 2000 Limited

This has been a Colorado-only car. My "perfect" T4R is a 3rd gen 2000 limited w/ the diff locker. I'd like to find one without rust or with rust that I can brush off and then rustoleum reform.

Pictures attached. Thoughts?

Here in the rust belt, that's what a 2 year old truck looks like.

That looks Good even for central Texas! I'd test drive and go from there but don't waste time....

It's actually not satire haha. I grew up in the bay area (Santa Cruz CA, in the forest) and unless your car is parked on the beach, nothing rusts. So any speck of rust to me is like an "OMG IS THIS BAD" moment.

This car is priced at 11k with ~170k miles and a clean interior. The one thing that freaks me out is that the carfax say "vehicle overturned" in an accident, but I've seen that on a few cars I've looked at and don't know what it means. The car clearly hasn't rolled over else it would be a salvage title...

In Maine that would be considered a beautiful frame. BTW I just sold a 2002 originally from CO with a similar frame and 223K on it for $5500. I gave the buyer a good price because he kept bugging me enough that it finally motivated me to change the blown engine. I probably would have put it out for sale for $6900 OBO to anyone else. Gen 3 4Runners are damn expensive in some parts of the country.

It would be pretty damn obvious if it's been in a rollover, and if not then they dumped some serious money into fixing the body and would be selling it for a big loss. That's still something I would investigate though. The price is definitely pretty high and I'd use that to lower it - for some reason over the past year or two people on the west coast and other areas outside the salt belt have been trying to use rust free frames and sub-200k miles to tack on another $5-10k to their asking price, like it isn't a common sight around here

Yeah. I just test drove it now. Observations:
1) Tranny felt smooth
2) Engine was quiet & timing belt looked good (no cracks), but didn't have a sticker
3) All speakers on the left side don't work
4) Lumbar support air pump thingy doesn't work
5) 4WD system is functional & diff lock works
6) All windows & accessories work. AC blows cold.
7) Suspension feels...tired

I talked to the guy selling it and he said he bought it at auction, then did a paint job (two tone, white body with the silver trim). It's a Maaco job. Doesn't look bad.

This is definitely a "flip" and at the 11k asking price I don't think it's worth it. With the "vehicle overturned" & timing belt probably needing service...I'm not sure if it's even worth it to make an offer. My gut says that I should wait for a better one, especially since I don't urgently need a car right now (I already have a functional vehicle).

Thoughts? Just feels off...

Go with your gut, if it doesn’t feel right and you have hesitation walk away and wait for the right one to come.

On a 2000?!? LOL

That rust is nothing. Unless you live in a salt pit, that car has 50 years or more at that rate.

I am assuming you’ve never really looked for rust. My wife’s Murano had that level of rust in 1-2 years
