Sluggish acceleration problem
Have a 2001 4runner sr5 3.4l that has really sluggish acceleration. Can't get over 15 mph. No problem codes,, just wondering what others thought?

As in can't go over 15mph altogether?? Sounds like you're stuck in first gear or 4Lo if that's the case. 4WD? Out of curiosity, do you RPMs stop climbing or will it let you redline too?
Our vehicles are pretty sluggish though, at least the n/a V6 is (or rather, many find it to be.) Supercharger really helps but is pretty spendy.

I haven't tried to get the rpms very high because I had to rush to find a ride to work today, will see tomorrow but from what I remember it wouldn't let me much over 1500 or so. Not a 4wd. Just feels like I can't get enough power to get over 15 mph. This only started this morning, and I haven't had problems similar to it before this.

Start with a 'tune-up' (plugs & wires) and clean MAF, then go from there based on results. Many other variations of how to attack this yet this is one way....
My 3.4 is not sluggish, keeps up with traffic just fine from a standstill up to 85, now try accelerating fast from 35-55, there I would call it sluggish, its a Feature.
Luck.

Does the engine rev up very high but the vehicle does move? Sort of like if you had the clutch in on a manual transmission and the power doesn't go to the wheels? If yes the transmission is shot. Does it not rev up at all and stutters or doesn't move? You've got at the very least a Pending Check Engine Light that you can pull with a code reader to get some clues as to what is wrong.
Even with busted plugs with no center electrode the engine will still spark and move so there's something much more serious going on either to the engine or transmission. However we need more information in order to help, just saying it won't move faster than 15MPH doesn't give us anything to go off of.

I just leave the ECT button on 24/7 I swear it's not placebo. I also noticed there is like a threshold with tire pressure, after going from 35-38 psi to 40 psi (E rated tires) where it suddenly wants to roll much easier.
I would add throttle body and IAC cleaning (off vehicle) and a new air filter to the tune up and see what happens. Might as well do the fuel filter too if it hasn't been done.

Also check the parking brake didnt simply seize up or you forgot to disengage and the dash light is burnt out so didnt notice. I uh.. happen to know it will go faster than 15 mph with it engaged though.

Plugs and wires like said earlier if you haven’t done them.
40psi is the game changer on my LT E tires. Almost negates all of the negatives of a 10 ply rated tire. Anything under 35psi and it a real turd. 40 is the stuff.

Is it possible for the throttle cable to have loosened somehow? It seems overly simple and I don't even know if it could get loose enough to have a problem like this. I guess it wouldn't hurt to check though. I just adjusted mine a few days ago which is why it came to mind.

Pretty sure the 2001s have the odd ball drive by wire setup but you might be onto something with the throttle plate not opening all the way.
