Rear strut top mount fix

I was driving and I heard a banging sound . I found out the rear top mount of driver side struts broke off due to the rust. Does anyone know if any company makes like a fix plate or something to weld . Thank you for your help in advance

If you can't find a company that makes the special plate anywhere you might have good luck with a parts truck and have a welder weld in a used piece back in.

Another resource for you. This link is specifically our 3rd Gens. Although they don’t have exactly what you are looking for, might be working on it already OR you can collaborate with them to get it for free ;)

Some here mounted the top of the shock to the frame as a fix.

Wow, Toyota actually sells a replacement patch?
Gonna take that as them admitting "okay we kinda dropped the ball here"

You could weld washers in but it's best to replace those plates. Might even able to buy them used and weld them in. If need be..

as a completely unrelated question?

does anybody know the diameter of the hole where the top of the rear shocks mount?

I'm starting my relocate the shocks outboard and this is the only thing I need to know for my new setup?

Welding price

The passenger side looks like about to go too. They shop lifted my runner and where the pieces are welded on looks bad. There is rust in those areas.
He told me it would be $1400.00 for both sides
He said ,needs to drop de gas tank to do the job
Also he would weld new metal where is need it and he would coated with frame paint
I never got any weld job before
What do you guys think expensive or fair price?

If the guy does good fab work then yes, fair price. This is a lot of work to do it right. The bigger question is there good metal left in that spot to weld the plate to? From the looks of your first picture I would be skeptical. I've seen rear shock relocation kits for 3rd gens and I think Timmy/Sean even did a video on one. Might be worth looking into.

Dropping the tank may open a whole new can of worms if there has been enough rust to destroy the shock mounts.

That said, $1400 may well be a good price. OTOH, you may be throwing good money after bad.

Lobor prices are high but the 1400 seems on the high side. Getting a second quote might be good.

I just rebuild my own patches and steal on. If those plates are rusted.. mostly the inner frame is rotted up as well. The wheel arches behind the tank maybe rotted through.

Labor rates are costly. The driver side shock coil plate wraps around that pipe and welded near the top. No way to weld a new plate in without removing the tank.

I would clean out the crossmember pipe and weld a new pipe inside of it so if the pipe is thin. You have steel to weld the plate back too.

I can see that having some costs to it as it takes alot of time. To get that all apart. As depending how rusty, could need a tank, the lower control arms strengthened with more steel .

If they are very good at it. I can see that being thwt cost or more.

I have no idea how rusted your rig is underneath. So that would change the cost depending on what is what..

Watching with much interest. I'm in PA with 235K miles (going for 300K) and have had to do a frame patch. The shop also said the upper shock mounts look iffy. I found the SRQ site and that looks promising. But I don't off road other than an occasional two track in the mountains. Would I need the fancy shocks to use the SRQ kit?
