DuroBumps 5.25” VS 3.5" bump stops for 2" lift ?
So I have a set of 5.25" DuroBumps that I was going to install with my recent ~2" lift (Bilstein 5100 with OME 906s).
I know the website says the 5.25" are for a 2" lift, but they seem really tall to me. I know they're progressive rubber, so that should help. But I can't help but think that I'd be better off with the 3.5" DuroBumps.
Anyway, does anyone have any experience running the 5.25" and/or 3.5" DuroBumps with a 2" lift? Or maybe help me understand why the 5.25" might be right for my application?
Thanks!

I had the same dilemma when choosing DuroBumps for my 2" lift.
I measured the clearance between the OEM bumpstops and the axle with the shock fully compressed - it was just touching on one side, and about 1/4" gap on the other. I then measured the OEM bumpstop height (I think it was about 2"), which meant that I needed something greater than about 2-1/2" when fully compressed, to avoid bottoming out the shocks with some margin.
I wasn't sure if the 3.5" DuroBumps would be tall enough, since I couldn't find any reference that gave the compressed height, but the 5.25" just seemed too long. So I figured that I'd rather get the 3.5" ones and add a small spacer if needed than get the 5.25" and have to cut them down to avoid constantly bottoming out on the bumpstops. Jason from Opt Offroad also suggested the 3.5" ones for my application.
I haven't driven it enough yet to know for sure, but I did put the 3.5" bumpstop in a vise and tried to compress it, it did not compress all that much - so I think it was the right choice.

If you have stock (or near stock) length shocks when the are compressed, get the shorter ones. If you have longer (LC, 4th/5th gen, etc.) shocks, get the longer ones.
You want to maximize travel whenever possible...

Going through this as well, I had won a set of the 5.25’s from a Timmy the Toolman bbq a few years back. I just recently flex tested my suspension (old toytec bilstien/boss kit) and at full bump (bumpstops compressed) I have about 3”+ of shock travel left.. Ordered up some of the 3.5’s a week ago I think they will be perfect since they are only 1.75” shorter. If your unsure the best way to check is flex test by removing the rear coils.

I wonder if the risk of tire rub goes up with the shorter one? I should have looked the bottomed out side the other day when i took these. These are the longer 5.25 durobumps on 2” lift, 265/75 tires.

These photos are very helpful. I’m also running 265/75r16s.

Based on those photos, I may just install what I’ve got and cut them down or swap them out later if needed.
One last question: what’s the size/thread/pitch for the bolts I need for the 5.25” ?
(My bolts are long gone and so are my original OEM bump stops.)
Thanks! Super helpful as always!!

The bolts are M8-1.25mm, about 35-40mm long as I recall (they need to be longer than OEM bolts because the DuroBumps have a thicker section under the washer).

DuroBumps 5.25” VS 3.5" bump stops for 2" lift ?
I’m going to assume that the passenger rear was bottomed out that photo. I didn’t actually look. I know we were teeter tottering basically on two wheels there, and my son and I were laughing that we need to get out and get a photo of it.
The eLocker made short work of the departure.
This old Toyota continues to just impress me with how capable it is for no more than is done to it.

DuroBumps 5.25” VS 3.5" bump stops for 2" lift ?
One thing to add, I’ve taken some gnarly gnarly hits with this thing. Two or three of them that I had a feeling of dread as soon as things got settled back and the thought in my head of “great I surely just bent something in half just now.” I have anticipated carnage and taco/horseshoe shaped parts…..
I don’t advocate for people doing anything stupid. Please drive within your comfort and your ability. But the ability for these Durobumps to dissipate energy is just amazing. It gives me a little too much confidence sometimes and I probably hit things a little faster than I probably should.
Time for a long travel maybe????? Lol……

Just to update this thread: While I'm sure I'd probably be just fine with the 5.25" DuroBumps (especially after seeing
@ Romeo1
's photos), I spoke with Jason from OPT OFF ROAD again, and like with
@ Spiker Engineering
, he confirmed I should go with the 3.5" DuroBumps for my application.

My 3.5’s just shipped out today! I want to flex test it after I install them but that’s a ton of work and I’m 95% sure they will be just fine.. lol.

So, I guess I’ll ask it here. Are there any contact issues with the shorter durobump on a 2” suspension lift with 2906 springs and 5160 Bilsteins? I wouldn’t mind moar articulation.

Just thought I would chime in although I haven't installed anything yet, but I'm going with 906's and Fox 2.0s for a 4th gen, so a longer than stock shock. I found a pair of 5.25 bumps and even though I should just be getting about 2" of lift I think for running a longer shock, I want to avoid over compressing so it seems like the longer bumps will give me that protection. Also gives me headroom for running a taller spring in the future.
