This means I've got to take both of those skids off to change my oil.

Also, I have like 5/8" worth of washers as spacers between the belly skid and frame, because otherwise the skid hits the transfer case before the frame. I think these were designed around a Tacoma and are close enough that they sell them as universal 4Runner skids.

Bottom line, they work, but they don't go together as easily as they should and are a pain in the ass to get to fit right. That said, they are one of the less expensive options and had fast shipping, so there's that.
Forgot about this. My Shrockworks transfer skid also had to be spaced away from the frame to keep the transfer case from hitting it and causing noises. Took me awhile to figure out that noise.

The front skid also contacts the cross member the steering rack mounts to. Haven't found a way to fix this one so I just live with the small noise it makes when turning and flexing, like leaving a driveway. Could just be worn body mounts allowing too much movement or something like that I suppose.

Just an excuse to post a pic. I have 3 pieces of the 4XI stuff and yes it is THIIC steel. Probably overkill for my dirt lowrider. For the transfer skid I did remove the little factory bashplate and added about 1/4" of washer/spacer for a bit more clearance. Skids are great but if you are in a situation that calls for them, sliders can protect you from a major body and door repair. Spend! Spend!

I have a 2011 FJ and went with RCI aluminum and had them powder coated and I'm completely happy with their product ,customer service and pricing .

And that's what I'll put on my 14 4R , good people and even better product.

Is yours fairly new? Wondering if they started adding their logo sometimes since I bought mine. That was one of the reasons I initially bough their skid, cause they were one of the few who didn't put any sort of branding on it
Cool license plate too

The front 2 skids are about 1.5 years old? Front came with 2 holes pre-drilled and when I bought the TC skid recently I asked them about the holes on the f and they threw in a stainless logo and a set of bolts. I painted it black and threw it on. You can't see it with the fat lip unless you're down there, but I'll likely take it off when I get a real bumper. Most of my taste is in my mouth as they say so I'm liable to do weird shit like paint the skids tan. The Loser plate is a fake plate from a casino gift shop. I sent this picture to my friend saying "you'd fit right in out here" or something... sitting on his ass watching sports last weekend when he could have been out in the Mojave getting savaged by horse flies (was not familiar with the fvckers) and No-See-Ums - covered with bites.

Savage made a nice looking set and when they weren't available any more, DOC Offroad started making similar ones. Check them out on IG, they are out of LA.

Had to look those up, very interesting design. Curious how they perform

I don’t think so. I’ll have to look.

I have a set waiting for my in LA, I got to check them out but didn't have room to take them home. They are built very well, might be the up and coming replacements! If I can get to them sooner I'll share some photos and insight, for the time being IG has a lot of photos.

Still happy with your 4XInnovations skid plates? Any recommendations on fuel tank skids?

Yes, I am happy with them, but to be honest the are HEAVY. I am going to swap the transmission soon and may Fumoto-valve it so I have little reason to pull them off in the future - oil is already F-valved. I don't have a tank skid yet but I would go with Lil Skip's, personally. Seems to be a 1-man operation, is super responsive, decent price (last time I checked) and will notch his skid to accommodate odd slider mounting points (bolt-on Shrockworks) for free. I'm just doing what I can to my rig - I'm not an expert and not particularly well-funded of late! Thank you Affirm and Pay-in-4. SMDH

I hear that. I’m not in a position to make a big purchase like that for a few months, and honestly flywheel and clutch are a higher priority.
