Identify This Filter???
Got the 3Gen with this filter and have no idea what type it is, there is no marking. The element does not seem to be replaceable, it seems to be a one piece metal element and the pores are too small for oil.
Anybody know what brand it is and whether it is possible to replace just the front filter part?

Definitely get that thing replaced. Measure the pipe diameter where the filter mounts and the available space and order one up!
Or, get a replacement OEM airbox... which will filter better and won't lose you any HP...

Yah I think the simple replace filter element by diameter option would work. The base system must have been some big $$ as it has all the electronics to satisfy the computer. A simple tube and conical filter setup is over $300 from K&E:
K&N Performance Air Intake System | 77-3110KP
They claim 18 hp gain, I find that very difficult to believe. Very.

Dunno, but he must have paid north of $400 for it 'cuz it has all the electronics built in for the computer. Don't know about yours, but my truck isn't a garage princess. After running a few hundred miles in the dirt and getting a lean code I simply wire brushed the element to get home. Try running a few hundred miles offroad and post a pic sometime, that is if you get offroad.

I'm going to agree on this being a home made setup. Any aftermarket 3rd gen intake removes the air intake silencer which this setup doesn't touch. Also, that filter certainly looks to be replaceable as it seems to just be held on by a hose clamp. And the filter definitely needs to be replaced as those giant holes that are shown in your picture are not just what happens when you go off-road, they are what happens when the filter is rubbing on something for probably way too many thousands of miles.

..You mean drilling a hole to stick the MAF inside of? Damn I charge way too cheap then
Your MAF should last much longer than a couple hundred miles unless you're driving in fechfech or a dust storm. Addressing those holes should greatly help, and in that instance I don't see why another cone of a similar diameter wouldn't work just fine. It's not a solid piece, there are clearly two barrel bands visible

That looks like a specter intake tube and filter. Basicly no more than an autozone special. If you actually use yours in the dirt, I'd change that thing out yesterday and put a stock box and filter back in it

Put it back to stock! Go to the junkyard and get the whole stock air cleaner box and duct.

You can search on AFe's website by size and get a dry filter more suited for dusty conditions than an oiled K&N

About sums it up. Been doin' my own (TIG) welding as of late tho, where is Chewie? The holes are from wire brushing the snot out of it to clear the codes.
